dude just play Sheik, attend tournaments, forget about character choice and counterpicking and just focus on winning and doing your best to outthink another person. Characters are the least important part. The important thing about fighting games trying to outyomi another player

That's an interesting method. Would it not be better to use tournaments to test the waters with different potential mains? Or perhaps I've been approaching this game all wrong.

The reason the game feels dead to you is that you're only able to reach a certain low/mid level of play because you haven't gotten far enough with a character to understand deeper aspects of matchups and yomi.

Yeah, but I'm not certain I want my deeper understanding of the game to be through Sheik. And not even just because she's the best character. I may just do this anyway. I clearly need to make a change.

Your only aversion to Sheik is probably that you think she's the best and people will look on you negatively?

Not necessarily. If anything, that would help my mentality improve. I guess I just don't find her as fun as many other characters. Hell, I am still unsure what exactly I want out of this game.

Yeah, she can feel unsatisfying because of her Needle play, but once you play her for a few dozen games you'll pick up on a lot of the mental aspect of her matchups and forget about how unsatisfying her hits are to land.

The cool thing about Sheik is that the burden of loss is entirely on you. If you lose a matchup, you know it's because you didn't play it right.
