Apparently, according to our very own Masahiro Sakurai himself, TAKAMARU, tthe main protagonist of the beloved, fan-favorite Famicom classic, The Mysterious Murasame Castle, was planned to be a PLAYABLE character, for SUPER SMASH BROS. FOR NINTENDO 3DS and WII U! That's right, baby! Ol' Taka was at least considered for Smash 4!
