Nothing has been done with their characters since they were created. It's painfully obvious by this point what their special talents are, and they still don't get it. What's more, it's halting some really interesting points for character development. Such as: What will happen to the trio when one of them finds their Cutie Mark and the other two don't?

But that's what makes them unique as characters. What are there special talents then? Later when said character development happens do you think you'll like them more?

If the only thing they have "unique" about them is that they don't have their Cutie Marks, then they're not good characters. The only one I can directly recall is Sweetie Bell's singing. There was an episode which highlighted each character's strong point when they were part of a talent show, and they each wound up giving their own special talent to one of the others because they were nervous.
