It's mostly for Tetra. A popular and very deserving Zelda character. And Toon Link serves more purpose than representing the Toon games. But, Toon Zelda herself is certainly excessive imo.

Well, think about it. Tetra was developed as her own character, in the game, she's never actually Zelda. They magically turned her into the familiar damsel just to have Zelda in the story.

Damsels suck. But, Toon Zelda was cute in Spirit Tracks. The whole relationship between her and Link was adorable.

Well yeah, In that game she was fine. But In Wind Waker her only role in the story was making an independent character submissive. It fills me with unjustified rage.
Having the option to have Doc Louis be coaching mac from the background ala Red would be awesome.
