Unfortunately it has to load in all the separate characters and stage data. I don't know how it works with items yet as they're not included in the demo I've played.

Bowser, Pac-Man, Crash Bandicoot and Tingle coming soon amongst others. I think I read they're considering Palutena, Nook, Meowth, Spyro, Kamek, etc.
