I don't know what your reasoning for saying that is, fogbadge, but...
Shadow is not only a well-liked character, but he is very relatable, for being strong, independent, among other things. He may be edgy, but that is not the only thing that defines him. He has been through a lot, and a lot of what he went through and who he is can be related to; not just his negative traits, too.
