Items balanced the game, in 64 the hammer lasted so long you could kill some one twice. We turned them off so Sakurai gave us tripping. If brawl isn't competitive lets play it for fun and play melee for sport. They are both great games and will be around for a while so just be happy.

I occasionally miss the ledge when i "hug" it but that's because my hugging isnt perfect but I wouldn't blame the ledges on it and if its such a problem just short hop onto it. Its much easier and pretty much guarantee to catch it.
