So, my friend at Nintendo told me this: 5.3.2 won't fix the "160-" errors if you already have them, but it is to prevent future issues for people who have not gotten the error. They are still looking into the issue to see the cause and to see if they can reverse it.

They will just give you a new system. Unfortunately, this means that you will lose all your save data.

Seems that way. If you get the error, for the love of god, DO NOT format you system.

I have a friend who works for Nintendo customer service in Seattle and he told me that they are fixing the systems that have the error for free. I'd give them another call and see what they tell you.

When did they tell you that? Because it is possible that when you contacted them, they rep didn't know of the issue yet.

RROD was something like 30% of systems. This is nowhere near that level of defect.

If you have the error, you were likely going to get it eventually anyway. Nintendo is fixing systems for free, so it's better to find out now and get the free fix while you can. But again, it's super unlikely that you will be affected.

Seems like it may be a read/write error with how the system handles it. Then, once you reformat, the system hardware goes all wonky. This is a weird one.

Yeah, I see that. The "160-" is a system memory issue though, so it likely has something to do with the internal memory of the WiiU itself that happens to be clashing with Save or Update data.
