You should always JC Grab, unless you are shield grabbing (L+A to counter an attack and then grab). My method of JC grabbing is to press X right as I press Z to grab. Trust me, you will get so much better when you can dd jc grab.

Also never use Upsmash. It's pretty much a terrible move in all respects. You will always be better off using Utilt.
