With Link's spike, I can kill level 9 Mario 3 - 5 times per 2 minute match. But if I'm not spiking, I have have to rely on sudden death to win.

Personally, I never used them in serious matches, and I didn't particularly enjoy fighting against them. To be blunt, I am glad to see them gone. I cannot be the only one feeling this way. --My own, biased opinion.
