Hmmm....there are invincibility frames while switching, and it takes a little time for the Poke'mon to appear out of its Poke'ball when switching, so that in itself can be "spammed" to take time up in Time matches. Then again, most people like playing stock more than time anyway....

The English one was meh as far as the battle goes IMO, but the Japanese battle was pretty cool. Yeah, I was kinda disappointed by the update, but it should get better next week.
