I've been playing smash since I could play video games. My cousin gave me his N64 with the original smash when I was very young and I loved it. Melee for the Gamecube was a highlight of my childhood. I got a Wii just for Brawl and played it for over a year.
I fell off of smash when my friends I and switched from physical to virtual hangouts, and by that I mean we would just spend weekends on Xbox Live together instead of actually going to each other's houses. I fell off of Nintendo in general when I got Halo: Reach and an Xbox 360. Then it was an xbone with Destiny and Smite and so on.
However, my love for smash was rekindled summer of 2015 at a college summer camp. The crazy 8 person games and the huge tournament grabbed me immediately as I found other people who also loved smash.
I got a Wii U in October and my friends and I would play Smash 4 every other weekend or so. After watching Genesis 3 however I realized Melee is undeniably more hype as a game, my only issue is the rather small character list. That is when I realized PM was a thing. I immediately bought an SD card, dug up my Wii, and using the guides on this site I easily downloaded and fell in love with Project M. The melee mechanics combined with a fat viable roster is everything I wanted.
As I continued playing and spectating I inevitably spent more time with Melee. It has a bigger base, a longer history, more events, more players in the spotlight, and way more memes. Should have stuck with it since childhood. Now I simply play Melee whenever possible
