I am very new to the competitive Smash scene. How new? I haven't even attended my first tournament yet, but I set up this account because I will be attending my first very soon.

Originally, I was going to take the name Nemesis, but Smashboards said it was already taken. So, I took inspiration from Undertale. And before anybody asks, no, I will not be obsessing over Undertale on this forum. I'm here for Smash.

The following is my history with Smash, and how I ended up joining the scene. Read if you want.

I grew up with Super Smash Brothers Melee...and I absolutely loved it. I spent most of my time trying to beat Event Mode and getting owned by my friend's scrubby Kirby. Back in those days, I played Doc, for the sole reason that I thought he was a cooler version of Mario, my previous main.

Then Brawl came, and I loved that game more. Remember, I was a devoted casual, and wasn't aware of the competitive scene at all. I dedicated two days to beating Subspace Emissary shortly after I purchased the game. My mind was blown that Sonic was in the game. After a few months, I discovered the "advanced" techniques known as rolling, grabbing, and shielding. My friend's Kirby was mincemeat from then on, especially when I began to branch out from Mario and use what I perceived as weird characters such as Ice Climbers and Ness.

In the limbo between Brawl and Smash 4, I began to discover Melee's competitive scene. I could barely understand what was happening, but the first Smasher I started recognizing was Mew2King, so he became my favorite Smasher. Then I started seeing this "MaNg0" kid beat Mew2King up, and then I saw some "[A]rmada" person beat MaNg0 up. I stopped watching after a short time, but a few years later I would return to spectating and learn to appreciate the players and their skill on a deeper level.

A bit over a year ago, Smash 4 came out. The Nintendo Invitational had got me pretty excited about the game, but...I was disappointed. Not only was there a lack of a single player mode similar to Subspace, but most of the roster was already unlocked. There wasn't much to do in the game. I loved how the game felt compared to Brawl, and I was overjoyed that Doc made his return, but from my casual point of view, the game didn't have much longevity.

My re-introduction to the competitive science changed my opinion. Not only was I watching Melee and Smash 4 religiously, but I began playing a crap ton of For Glory in Smash 4(this was my best practice at the time) and spending about an hour total every day attempting basic tech skill in Melee. The more I watched, the more my desire to get better grew. I wanted to "git gud". I began to daydream what it would be like to face Leffen in the Grand Finals of a national, or take a set off of ZeRo. Smash became an addiction.

However, I wasn't sure if I'd ever actually start going to tournaments regularly or attend one at all. It would be cool for me, but I wasn't sure how my family and friends would think about it. I was also afraid of getting exposed on a level unseen in the history of Smash.

But then, I was 2-0'd by a friend of mine in an unofficial tournament consisting of six people including myself. I had never won against him before, but I had been training hardcore for two weeks while he played Bloddborne any minute he could. I thought I had made tremendous progress since our last battle, but my Fox (my former main) got completely exposed by his Luigi.

That event motivated me to finally jump into the competitive Smash scene as a player. Even if I eventually beat my friend, I plan to be in the scene as long as the game is fun for me. I aim to play Melee, Project M, and Smash 4 because there's something to love in each one of them.
