The Myth of the Elitist Competitives

Yuna's right, it's the dumb casuals that try to be competitve(and think they are) and fail hard that cause trouble and get rightfully corrected. If you've never personally been called a scrub or a bad player, then I wouldn't worry about.

The Myth of the Elitist Competitives

I totally agree, however simply saying "...and that elitist club of yours" or something to that extent only adds fuel to the fire.

The Myth of the Elitist Competitives

I honestly don't know what he's talking about. He's calling something an "elitist club". What is it? Tourneys? The competitive scene? Smashboards as a whole? I don't know and I'd like to find out.

The Myth of the Elitist Competitives

How is whatever you're talking about an elitist club?

The Myth of the Elitist Competitives

You used the words "thrown out" so I assumed you meant a tourney, since you cannot be "thrown out" of a message board.

The Myth of the Elitist Competitives

The reason I brought it up was because everything you said about Smashoards could be applied to MLB/MLG/NBA/etc... and also because your claims are wrong. It's the responsibility of all tourney players to know the rules of the tourney beforehand, so it is totally illogical that a player would...

The Myth of the Elitist Competitives

Video games can have refs and written rules(how else do we have competitive rules for Melee?). Ever been to an MLG tourny? They have refs watching to make sure nothing illegal goes down and there are plenty of spectators as well.

The Myth of the Elitist Competitives

No one is saying that...Show me a post where an intelligent casual gets dissed by a respected member of the community.

The Myth of the Elitist Competitives

And you're talking about the competitve scene as if it's some kind of exclusive club where you have to suck up to everybody in order to stay in. Bottom line is, every competitive game, Baseball, Soccer, Halo 3...they all have competitive rules that must be followed for competitive play. Baseball...

The Myth of the Elitist Competitives

You know ... a club that you have to be initiated into(you have to be good enough to make the minors and then you must be brought up). One where you have to agree with everything or youre thrown out(umpire's calls). A club where you express disagreement and you're ostricized (there should be 5...

The Myth of the Elitist Competitives

QFT Elitism in this game is casuals saying something stupid or being misinformed and being corrected by respected members of the community.

The Myth of the Elitist Competitives

Who is saying casual players suck at this game?

The Myth of the Elitist Competitives

I'm not trying to say that you're completely wrong, I just think "elitist" is the wrong word here. To be elitist means you either need talent, wealth, a large ego, etc... to make yourself believe that you are actually better than everyone else. It seems like you were offended at the fact...

The Myth of the Elitist Competitives

Elitism means you perceive yourself as being better than everyone else and making claims based on that fact. If I tell someone to buy an Xbox 360 because it's not kiddy, is it because I think I'm better than everybody else or is it just my opinion that the majority of games on the Wii either...

The Myth of the Elitist Competitives

Sounds like a *******, not an elitist.
