I was watching melee glitch videos during the spring of 2013; in the related videos section was a video "m2k (mewtwo) vs Duck (black samus" and I decided to view it. Much to my enjoyment what I saw was a mewtwo destroying a samus. I was confused though. Like everyone I thought I was good at melee, I was the best out of anyone I had ever met, but then I saw that video. My eyes were opened to the competitve world of smash. It feels like the very next day I was studying matches, watching and trying to emulate professional players. I started with marth, moving on to falco and so on. Then EVO 2013 happened and the community exploded, it was like I had gotten a jump on the competition.
Unfortunately I live in northwest indiana, one of the deadest areas for competitive melee. Thanks to this site I have found more players in my area, but I quickly surpassed them. I'm hoping to start going to some events in Illinois and test my skills against other players besides my current training group. Hopefully it'll be a lot of fun.
