Ok, I admit, Steve was a pretty bad example xD Buuuuut there are DBZ (not absolutely sure about that) and Naruto games that have been released exclusively for Nintendo consoles and no one (actually far to many but still kinda no one) wants Goku or Naruto in Smash. Edit: I have to be honest...

How about Steve from Minecraft? I know, he has nothing to do with Nintendo, but... Wait... That's not a problem anymore.

I've never been able to understand how Pichu was supposed to be worse than Bowser. Good to see, I'm by far not the only one to think this way.

Hmm... playing falco I love to fight characters like Ike, Ganon, DeDeDe etc. Characters I can basically chaingrab all over battlefield into dair. Should mention my friends and I aren't tooo good ^^

Not sure if it's as useful as wavedashing, for those dashes travel a pretty short distance. But it's better than anything you could do in Brawl, so...
