Discussion of Stage Legality in Smash Bros. Ultimate

For all the stages that don't have the obvious degenerate abuse-able qualities, and are instead being considered for banning because of "heavy favoring of specific characters" (such as Brinstar or Green Greens), I really feel these stages need to be given a chance to allow the potential...

Discussion of Stage Legality in Smash Bros. Ultimate

I believe characters would still be the priority regardless. If a stage really favors certain characters to the point of degenerate, unfun and unchallenging gameplay, then still the stage should be the one to take the ban. I'm not sure how removing stage striking changes that. If rules with...

Discussion of Stage Legality in Smash Bros. Ultimate

Because it removes the convolution of people needing to ban "similar" stages all at once, Is that not where your argument against "similar" stages is rooted? The fact that it'd be convoluted during the banning process (Having to remember what all stages are grouped together and the arguments on...

Discussion of Stage Legality in Smash Bros. Ultimate

Buuuuuuut no stage striking at all is even simpler, and removes why a lot of (totally fine, legal) stages is a complex issue. :O (I'm just gonna keep actively promoting this idea until someone provides me with the reasons it's a bad idea.)

Don't Ban Stages that seem the "same"

Alright, I was just wondering if I was missing something that could be abused. If abuse isn't an issue, it still seems like counter picking is one of the root issues on why having all the non-degenerate stages legal becomes convoluted. As you mentioned "Short of treating all Battlefield-layout...

Could you point me towards those? I did ask you three times without an answer. :0

Don't Ban Stages that seem the "same"

Heyo! You seem like the most experienced and credible person in the thread regarding the matter. If I may ask, what is your take on the idea of simply removing stage striking as a thing in Ultimate? Is there any possibility for major abuse if counter picking is literally just like: Loser picks...

So... What about just removing the stage striking process?

Smash Tourney Rules? What Should they be

I would really love to see all technically legal stages be allowed to be played, though I understand how it could be inefficient to have to constantly go back and change whether or not hazards are on or off. I really hope this can be toggled later on the stage select screen. I think 3-stocks is...

Don't Ban Stages that seem the "same"

I used to have this view as well. While I agree there is definitely a bit too high of a standard on what some people immediately think should be banned, if you dive deep into what got stages banned, it's far more understandable. One thing to note is that tournaments have money involved, so I...

Don't Ban Stages that seem the "same"

I am curious on what would go wrong if we just stopped stage striking as a thing. It is the one of the biggest points of contention when it comes to allowing "similar stages", making it a far more convoluted process. Does anyone know how simply allowing the loser to pick any of the legal, and...

Discussion of Stage Legality in Smash Bros. Ultimate

I mean, both questions involve the same thing, it's just a glass half full or empty spin on it. Not sure why Duck Hunt is basically a slight variation of battlefield. Anyway, I get Midgar[Hazards off] (Because Hazards on is sure as hell never gonna be legal for good reason), but Yoshi's Story...

Discussion of Stage Legality in Smash Bros. Ultimate

That doesn't really answer the question though. I'm rooting for a stage choice system that doesn't cut any stage simply out of convenience to the system in and of itself (All 30 or whatever are available). So I asked, why is the banning process in stage selection necessary? Does the original...

Discussion of Stage Legality in Smash Bros. Ultimate

True. I am trying to think of simpler ways of going about it. Is there any real huge problem with just letting the person who's counter picking to simply choose any of the legal stages? I think I get the gist of it, but what is the true purpose of why stage striking is a thing during one's...

Discussion of Stage Legality in Smash Bros. Ultimate

I like the idea of there being individual stage lists, the loser picks 3 stages (only one from each list), and the winner choosing one of those 3 stages. Anything but a system that bans completely fine stages out of convenience.
