I think the healthiest character additions to a franchise is as follows: Main character (/s if they are a duo or group) > Main villain, if any > Main secondary characters who should really deserve it (hence why Fire Emblem or Pokemon for instance are tricky cases). I think with this formula...

Again, another point for it being real. The characters are clearly professionally placed, I highly doubt anyone could fake such a seamless artwork without them looking 'out of place', which they just don't! That's the forest some can't see only focused on the trees.
