Discussion of Stage Legality in Smash Bros. Ultimate

You've got the core idea down, but the only stage that would be randomized would be Game 1. Game 2 and 3 would be chosen from that remaining pool by the loser, either with no bans or with 1 ban depending on how whoever is TOing decides to lean. Something we haven't had a chance to talk about...

Discussion of Stage Legality in Smash Bros. Ultimate

This isn't super tied to the present conversation, but I just had a thought that really puts me off of the whole 'winner of game 1 lists 3/5/X stages, and the loser picks from them' It certainly looks good on paper, but what it's actually doing is giving the winner a ludicrous amount of bans...

I'm a member of the Back Room, and that only means I get temporary access to admin accounts on certain weekends and can read any private messages I want. It's really quite humdrum, the Shadow Council is the one really pulling the strings.

I did not mean to give you the impression that I did not think there was zero dissent about the stagelist. I myself believe that it's gotten insanely stale. I just don't see that conversation happening around me at all. True, I haven't gone looking for it either, but where do you even go to find...

Discussion of Stage Legality in Smash Bros. Ultimate

This is a super relevant point, but thankfully one I have an answer for. And that is a resounding 'maybe'. Seriously though, it comes down to why we're doing this in the first place. If we don't have these conversations, we cannot assume someone else will have them for us. I've been pretty...

Discussion of Stage Legality in Smash Bros. Ultimate

Here's hoping you're right man! But my point was that people have expressed disapproval and overturned decisions before, and that hasn't happened for the other stages as it did for Lylat. Doesn't make it the 'right' decision, just the one that people have supported (or not cared enough to fight...

Discussion of Stage Legality in Smash Bros. Ultimate

Ok, so as promised here's me butting up against the whole argument of the previous stage system failing. I'd argue that to many people, possibly even a majority, it's been the exact opposite. Ultimately, what you're pushing for is something I agree with. But these stages have not gone away...

On mobile but I see what you guys mean now. I'm still gunna give you some pushback on the concept later tonight though when I can get to a computer.

Literally does not work how? You say this like tournaments have fallen apart at every turn, but I don't see what you're getting at at all here when tourneys have and will continue to run smoothly with that system. I'm with you on needing more counterpicks, but throwing them into Game 1 is where...

Discussion of Stage Legality in Smash Bros. Ultimate

Prob not, going off the precedence set by Smash 4. While I do agree with you on a personal level, I also recognize that there are a slew of issues such as music rights issues while streaming or just how much of a difference having a wall vs empty space below a stage can actually make. I find it...

Discussion of Stage Legality in Smash Bros. Ultimate

9 is an arbitrary, but ultimately prob pretty solid, number. Game 1 has to meet community standards of 'fairness', and that pretty much means 'stages we've already seen be neutrals in the past'. Keep in mind too, stage is picked before character now. So, and I fully acknowledge that I'm getting...

Discussion of Stage Legality in Smash Bros. Ultimate

Holy ****. Game 1 is ****ing solved, stage morph between both players pick is too beautiful (assuming it you know, works) Still the question of what 9 stages to use as the neutral roster, but this is a massively powerful tool for us to play with. Good god Sakurai you actually care. We don't...
