Super Smash 64 Person Tournament in Los Angeles

Would definitely be down, is this going to happen again? Smash 64 player here, I live in mid-city.

    Setting up CRT Monitor

Didn't catch the whole "monitor" part of the situation, thought you were just talking about a normal ol' CRT TV. :050:

How much should I be spending on a used SSB64 cartridge?

The one part of my post that was light hearted and not literal.... no, of course you don't need to take Japanese lessons to play the game. My whole point is if you're going to take the game seriously, the Japanese version is not the way to go. If you just want to be able to play the game for the...

How much should I be spending on a used SSB64 cartridge?

This is a pretty awful suggestion, unless the integrity of the game is meaningless to you and you'd rather save some money. Personally, in similar situations, I've learned to not cut corners because it'll usually end up costing you more anyway. In this case, the suggestion was to buy a cheaper...

Technical knowledge compilation (Gamecubes, controllers, TVs, recording)

This thread is extremely valuable, and I want to thank you Kadano for the amount of time and effort you've put in for everything. Just by reading I have learned a lot. I thought I would add one thing that I recently found out about, that can basically be an easy, economical replacement for a...

    Official T-Shirt

I have an official one from when smash 4 came out, but have never seen 64 or melee.

How much should I be spending on a used SSB64 cartridge?

As of 2018: Recently saw smash bros for $79.99 and $80 at two vintage game stores. I needed a replacement and was unwilling to pay $80, so I went on ebay and bought one for around $45-50. When the cartridge got here, I noticed within a few times of playing that the memory had reset. Knowing one...

Why is nobody talking about the cheaters online??

100% agree... No replay, never happened.

    How to move fluidly?

I think consistent wavelanding makes marth look just that, more fluid. As someone who played marth for a while, I can say that for me this was much harder to execute than wavedashing even though the theory is similar. Being able to wavedash and land with actual purpose under pressure rather than...

Character Discussion Thread (This week: Peach and Falco)

Wait, short hop autocanceling fairs makes you aggressive? Jeepers creepers. Obviously I'm not speaking in absolutes here, he's not 100% defensive, that to me means he would be in shield the full game. You can't play at that level without a plethora of techniques at your disposal and the...

Character Discussion Thread (This week: Peach and Falco)

Don't know how many of his sets you've seen, not that I've seen all of them... but he is not very aggressive as far as I see it. He usually camps Lloids, uses them to distract/hide his approach, and spaces/keeps distance with the slingshot. That is my definition of a campy projectile based play...

Character Discussion Thread (This week: Peach and Falco)

Been playing a bit of Villager, and noticed that the tremendous spike in options that other characters have to deal with projectiles gives him a severe disadvantage being that his only realistic style of play is projectile based camping. SSB64 and Melee being the games I take seriously, it was...

How often should I be attending tournaments to expect improvement at a reasonable rate?

Understandable. Glad that you got the distinction that you were presumed a new player.

How often should I be attending tournaments to expect improvement at a reasonable rate?

Alrighty then. No need to get feisty, your original post was not detailed enough to warrant such a response, no one could have deduced that you've "played melee for a long time lol and used to tournament stuff by now" from your original post. Sorry I tried to help. *Edit* - I didn't even advise...

How often should I be attending tournaments to expect improvement at a reasonable rate?

As always it depends. But if its the type of situation where almost all opponent characters are moving noticeably faster than you (solid WDing/L canceling) and you find yourself overwhelmed and unable to do almost anything, then no the tournaments wont help. If that's the case you need to grind...
