If you are a smash noob looking for tricks, then here you are.
These tips can be helpful for racking up damage, recovering, and some other good stuff.
Tip 1. Play characters who are easy to play.
Think of Mario for an example. He's a well rounded character. Not too fast and not too slow. His move set is decent too. Start training to learn the character even better.
Tip 2. Use weak moves.
Start using moves that doesn't really hurt your foe that much, like Fox's laser or the Mario Bros.' Fireballs. Using these weak moves a bunch of times will rack up your opponent's damage to give you a chance to beat him. Just be sure not to be way to spammy where it's the only move you do or do it way too frequently.
Tip 3. Use side specials to recover
First, most characters has a charged or moving side special that works great in the air like Wario's bike or Luigi's green missel. Besure that you don't charge to long or over charge it as it gives you a less chance of survival or easily spiked. Another thing to know that not all characters have side specials that can be used as recoveries.
