Hey everyone, YoshiMaStar here!
I have been hosting online tournament series called Xeon for 6 months now, and I think I have enough experience and knowledge to write this guide to help you all run tournaments. Here are my Tips and Strategies for hosting an effective online tournament!
This guide Mainly focuses on Tournament's that are planned to last 1-3 days, so if you host week-month long tournaments, SOME of these may be irrelevant to you.
#1: REGISTRATION
If you're hosting an online tournament, you want to create a Registration Post. That way, they can put their registration on that post with their Tag+Game info (such as Friend Codes or NNID's) right there. That way, you can manually add their name to the bracket, and be able to contact them directly by whichever account they used to register.
#2: STREAM
(Assuming your tournament has +20 players) When it comes to online tournaments, its not the smartest decision to stream every singe set of the tournament. I suggest you do pools, and stream the Top 8 of the final bracket.
#3 GROUP CHATS
It is very efficient to create a group chat for each individual pair of players so that they can contact each other directly for their set, and you will be able to "witness" it. It's also good to create a group chat containing all of the competitors in the event that you have to make an announcement, and its just good to have them all in one place.
#4 DISQUALIFICATION
In the event that a player does not show up, you own the right to disqualify them after a certain amount of time. I give the player 10-15 minutes. I give them this time amount of time because message delay is a factor.
