I see a lotttt of guides about characters and stuff like that but I hardly see any about the mindset. Why does one space? Why is the neutral sooo important? Why can't you just throw out attacks?
The neutral game is actually imbedded in your mind. You will shield when someone attacks you, or do any other defensive option. Knowing what applies defensive pressure is the neutral game. That's what spacing is. Forcing your opponent to play defense to open up approaches. For example if your opponent shields a lot you might l cancel nair and then grab while in grab range. Exploiting your opponent's defensive option's open up your approach. But that also means you have to use safe options. For example if you forget to l cancel your opponent will be able to shield grab.
You have to realize that your opponent is doing the same thing, spacing to get damage. You will probably feel the pressure your opponent is exerting and do a defensive option and your opponent will capitalize off of it. Like if you hold shield for a half second longer than you should your opponent will grab you and get a combo. This is mostly what happens in the neutral, both players spacing.
Spacing isn't as linear as just shffling your aerials. It's as open ended as shffling your aerials. Each character has different ranges and knowing each character's effective range is important. This is what helps you space safely.
Hope I helped
Yay
