Pressuring Ledge with Wario's bike

Pressuring Ledge with Wario's bike

Game Versions
Smash 3DS, Smash Wii U
This is my first guide, I will be adding things to it in the future, let me know what you think and if it was useful.

Wario's bike can be a powerful tool to pressuring another characters get up options off of the ledge. Here I will go over what actions with the bike a wario player has to maximize punishment with the bike.

1,Getting the bike in the correct spot
In all of these examples I will be assuming the Wario player has done the bike trick (run off and side b towards the ledge) to plop the bike on the ground to be picked up and utilized.

2. Up-Throwing the bike
This option is generally most useful on stages without platforms interfering. I find it most useful on FD, but also applicable on Smashville and T&C given the right timing. The stages with platforms will block the bike coming down and thus negate this option for the most part. To optimize a bike thrown upwards the Wario player should space themselves far enough back to not be vulnerable to drop down jump attacks from the other player. Make sure to up throw the bike either right when the opponent grabs the ledge, or right before it. After throwing up the bike, it is generally best to shield and wait for the opponent to pick an option.

These are the following options the opponent has in this situation and the best ways to punish. Note that these options could be very different depending on the match up but this is a general guide to the majority of the cast.
A. Normal Get up - In this situation the Wario player should react by rushing in for a grab. If the player does not shield the bike will hit them for some sweet sweet damage. You can forward throw and simply set up another trap after they are off stage
B. Get up attack - This is probably the worst option the opposing player can make assuming the Wario is spacing correctly. The bike should almost always hit the player if the bike throw was timed correctly, sending them off stage again and doing substantial damage to them.
C. Roll from ledge - This is what most players that do not know the matchup will attempt to do to escape this trap but it can be very deadly for them. There are basically two very good options for the Wario player in this situation.
C.1. If you read the roll and time it correctly you can get a free smash attack on the player.
C.2 The more flashy option is to dash back and grab the player, down throw them so that they pop right up into the bike and if you have waft and they are at kill percent, both half and full waft will true combo out of the bike hitting them after the throw. (See Tweeks Wario on youtube for an example of this)
D. Jump from the ledge - If the player Jumps off the ledge a large area is covered by the bike hitbox, if they try to go towards the stage they will have to either air dodge or be hit by the bike. If they air dodge, be prepared with an aerial or a waft on the other side of the bike. Either way do not let them get back on stage for free.
E. Drop down Aerial - This is almost always covered by the bike falling hitbox, with the exception of a few matchups.
F. Staying on ledge - If the player seems to be trying to stall on the ledge or dropping down and regrabing, you can dash attack the ledge to put them back at a disadvantaged state, or waft the ledge if they attempt to regrab.

3. Down Smash throwing the bike
This requires a bit of spacing, but is nice because it works on all stages. Grab the bike and back up to about roll distance, face the ledge and down smash throw the bike (while holding bike do the input for down smash). If correctly executed the bike should go into an arc falling right past the ledge. I find this particularly useful in matchups such as cloud where the falling bike can gimp his vertical up b recovery. There are two main different timings for when this is applicable
A. When they are recovering - Using this against recovering opponents can be very useful in some matcups such as cloud and other characters with non ledge snaping recoveries.
B. Right when they grab ledge - If timed correctly, this forced a getup option out of the player, because if they stay the bike will hit them on the ledge and do massive damage or gimp them.

This also covers get up attack and normal getup. If the player does a normal get up they are forced to shield. Use this to your advantage, if they fall for it once expect a different option such as roll and be prepared to punish it.

4. Leaving Bike at the ledge
If you leave the bike sitting at the ledge a lot of things can be done. You can use the bike to extend the hitbox of the waft, and catch the opponent if they try to get up attack, normal get up, or stay on the ledge. On certain larger bodied opponents this also covers roll getup if placed correctly. This is risky though, if the enemy sees you going for this they may just drop down and bait the waft from you, be patient, and use that pressure to force their options.

Another side note of this is you can drop shield and back up from ledge. The enemy will get up, and if they try to attack or smash attack you they will pick up the bike by accident, giving you a free punish. This is a bit cheesy, and situational, but can lead to some free kills.

5. Walk off waft/dair
This is a bit harder to pull off, but great for catching 2 frames. Pick up the bike and walk off the stage and immediately dair or waft, the extended hitbox can catch a lot of different characters recoveries. I tend to use this more with dair, because missing a waft can take away a lot of Wario's kill potential for awhile.

6. Mix ups and mind games
Once you pressure an opponent with any of these they will be more weary of the bike sitting on the ledge later on in the match, and it other games in that set. You can trick opponents this way. Make them think rolling from ledge is safe against the bike up throw, then waft them next time they do it. There are endless variations of this. Do not get repetitive, if you do the same option every time the opponent will catch on and bait you into bad situations.

IMPORTANT REMINDER
Do not leave the bike sitting there afterwards if you mess up, you need it for recovery among other things. Do not try any of these against a villager, he will pocket your bike and then you can say goodbye to it for awhile.

I didn't even know that you could extend Dair's hitbox with waft. All Wario players should read this guide. Although some of it has been stated before, it is extremely important to Wario's gameplay.
this is excellent it worked so well and helped a ton! thank you so much i myself am a wario main you see
