Megaman Player Guide w/ YouTube Video

Megaman Player Guide w/ YouTube Video

Game Versions
Smash 3DS, Smash Wii U

INTRO
Hi! My name is Cocho. I wanted to write a little about myself and summarize this guide along with the video.
Before you ask, I'm not a pro but I did want to share what I've learned about Megaman with you guys.
The video will focus more on setups, uses, combos, techniques, and those type of things. Things that are more general.
The written guide will be more technical, showing damages being dealt, kill percentages, and so on.
For all the kill percentages, I chose Robin (which is a middle weight character) and I kept raising the damage until I saw the red lightning come out. The stage I chose was Final Destination and Robin was 2/3rds across FD w/ no DI. I don't beleive the DI matters with the red lightning coming out of the character since 99% of the time it means death.
These kill percentages aren't exact because characters have different weight and each stage has a different distance to the blast zone. If you're wondering the differences of killing percents from the middle of the stage to the end of it, I've done a little testing and its seems to be around 30. If there's any errors or suggestions, please let me know! Thank you! :D
LEMONS
Uses Jab, F-tilt, & Nair
2% each, barely any knockback
3% touching cannon from jab/f-tilt, small knockback
4% touching cannon from a nair, bit more knockback

Retreating short hop jab for spacing,

towards opponent it's a good approach

Sweetspot on chamber in air with decent knockback

gimping or being annoying

Jabbing through someone can be interesting depending on their character. It usually just confuses/messes with people.
TILTS
UP-TILT
On startup: 17%, Kills ~ 81%
Late: 8%-12%, Kills ~ 169%
Can be used an an anti-air.
Can grab the ledge after.

DOWN-TILT
On startup: 8%
Late: 5%
If enemy jumps, up air, if not, fair/bair/jab
Catch landings, quick option to punish laggy moves/rolls, if used close up you will slide off of danger.
Since Megaman is somewhat low when he uses this move, he can go under some attacks like Thoran.
You can often d-tilt an enemy stuck with crash bomber without getting the bomb stuck onto you.
AERIALS
Gimping/Edgeguarding:
bair,faster
fair, reaches lower

Fair
8%
Less knockback than bair allows you string this attack more.

Bair
3 hits, 3%,4%,5%. Kills ~130%
If you dont connect the final attack, it can somewhat spike by canceling it on the ground to opponents off the stage

Dair
On start-up: 14% Kills: ~120% off stage, probably shouldn't be using this onstage
Mid/End: 12% Spikes
more damage at start, middle/near end will spike
Allows you to somewhat float & helping horizontal positioning.
If you're going for the spike, you should short hop this because it has limited range, if you need to full hop, you probably shouldn't be using dair.
not as reliable as it seems. Isn't Megaman's "go to" option
SPECIALS
Neutral B - Metal Blade
From special: 3% each, can hit multiple times.
Z-Dropped/Picked up: 5% each, can hit multiple times.
Can lead into grabs
drop w/ no lag
-Recovering low? Z-Drop
Dodge & airdodge, double Z
Jump Canceled Throw
Z-dropping and then N-airing to re-catch Metal Blade
Metal Blade straight down or down angled at the opponent. If it hits, fast fall then
U-tilt them.

Side B - Crash Bomber
1%, 1%, 1%,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=105&v=a60jMi9yfFE

How to Perform: If you are roughly equal damage as your opponent, stick a Crash Bomber to him, grab and pummel, eat the explosion, bair.
Effect: Mega Man and his opponent will be launched at a trajectory that is often perfect for a followup bair.
Use: Gimmicky and situational kill setup. Can be DI'd out of, so it's not a reliable setup.

Down B - Leaf Shield:
2% a leaf. Always 3% when throw
Can lead into grabs
Gimp by throwing it
Gimp by wearing it & jumping off stage. It's more effective against specific characters like Fox, Captain Falcon, Ness, Etc.

Up B - Rush Coil

If you're spiked, you're bounced back.
Walljump once, UpB, walljump again.

Rush Cancelling:
You can up-b out of some jab combos, and things similar to that, like up-tilt strings.

I didn't get time to test this out.
SMASH ATTACKS
F-Smash
11%. Kills: ~125%
Ignores all projectiles

U-Smash
Max 7 hits, 1%, 1%, 1%, 1%, 1%, 1%, 6%
Kills: ~122%
Catch rolls & spot dodges
Reaches most platforms & sucks enemies into.

D-Smash
Sweetspotted: 17%, Kills ~ 87%
Sourspotted: ~10%, fire can do a bit more damage
Earliest kill move, use for a read roll/spotdodge
GRABS
Pummel does 3%
Don't pummel unless they're at a high percents, takes long & easy to break out

F-throw
8%
Throw people off the stage, stage control. Weaker than back throw
Maybe use his specials afterwords

B-Throw
11%
From ledge will kill ~125%
Throw people off the stage, stage control. Weaker than back throw
Maybe use his specials afterwords
Kill option at high percents

D-Throw
4%
Follows up into aerials
Bread & Butter

U-Throw
7%
Up-Air?
Less useful than D-Throw
OTHER/DASH ATTACK
Dash attack
Hits 9 times, 1%,1%,1%,1%,1%,1%,1%,3%
Follows up into another dash attack, fair, or specials.
high risk, high reward

Out of shield options
Bair, shoryuken

Jab Locking Possibilities
Sweetspot nair can cause tech situation
sourspot bair can cause tech situation

MB 70-90%
Z-Dropped MB to lemon lock

Bair off a platform (2 hits) into lemon lock.

Nair into a SH, follow, jab-lock
lemon lock, uptilt

Attacks holding Metal Blade (Neutral-B)
You need to tap down on the C-Stick while holding down A, if I'm not mistaken.
You can also F-Smash if you hold the button and press right on the C-Stick, then let go of the button when you want to fire.

TWO INFINITES
Watch the videos, I'm not going to cover them.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKiK-hIj6VM

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G3_vOtY5kCc
SUMMARY
Kill Options
Bair is the safest. ~131%
Sweetspotted Shoryuken if it will hit, you can't really fish for it. ~81%
Reading a roll with Down Smash ~80%
Back-throw from ledge ~125%

Use all of your specials, try to keep a metal blade out if you can. You don't need to pull it out so badly that you'll get punished for it.

Down-throw is your best grab for follow ups.

Don't approach if you don't have to, free damage.
