Update 08/12/2015: I've now included down smash into the mix since it's been buffed as of 1.1. It would be worthwhile to know who can be hit by this move as it can kill early!
Update 06/15/2015: I've updated the list to include the new DLC characters. As of 1.08, the Greninja quirk still exists.
Hello Smashboards! King9999 here. I love to follow up a Flame Choke with an F-Tilt (a.k.a. Sparta Kick) because it almost ensures that my opponent will be KO'd, especially if they were at the stage edge. Sadly, not all characters can be hit while they're down. This guide simply shows you who can be hit with an F-tilt, and who cannot. Note: the guide assumes the opponent did not tech immediately after flame choke. Try using short hop air flame chokes!
Yes
No
If you look carefully, you'll notice that I put Greninja in both the Yes and No category. He's an interesting case; f-tilt will connect if Ganon is facing right, but not if he's facing left. This is either because Greninja reacts differently depending on which side you connected the flame choke, or something is happening to Greninja's hurtbox that causes f-tilt to miss when facing left. It's a weird quirk worth mentioning as Greninja is the only one who has a different reaction depending on which side you're on.
Another point worth mentioning is regarding the Miis. I have not checked if a small Mii size affects whether f-tilt will hit after flame choke, but generally speaking, the combo works.
That's all for my guide. Nice and short! Happy choking!
**********
This guide now includes characters that can be hit with Down Smash (or "death smash" as it should be called now). Generally, if the character has a wide or round body, they can be hit. For other characters, it's situational. Once again, the guide assumes that the opponent didn't tech.
Yes (ground & air flame choke, both hits of d-smash)
Yes (ground flame choke, 1st hit only)
Yes(air flame choke, both hits connect)
Yes (air flame choke, 1st hit only)
No(ground & air flame choke)
Note that if you use air flame choke against Link, you cannot land d-smash at all. He seems to be the only character with this exception. Happy death smashing!
