Comprehensive Project M Install and Troubleshooting Guide [WIP]

Project M Comprehensive Install and Troubleshooting Guide
For version: 3.5

Disclaimer: I, MaxThunder, am not part of the dev team. I'm just tech support.
Note: The Project M team does not support piracy, and the officially supported methods all require a legitimate copy of the game. Additionally, the Project M team does not support any modification to the Wii system, and encourages users to use the "Hackless" method of loading.

Full Set VS Wifi-Safe:
The Full Codeset takes advantage of all that Project M has to offer. However, for WiFi and replays to function properly, the WiFi-Safe set must be used. The WiFi-Safe set does not differentiate between L/R lightpress and full press of the Gamecube Controller's shoulder triggers, buffered dodges and jumps out of shield, Stock Control, Input Assist (3 frame buffer) or Stage Strike. It does, however, have an adjustable buffer setting that goes up to 10 frames. The PMDT recommends you play with the Full Codeset unless you're specifically using WiFi/Replays. You may switch between these two builds with the addons feature of the PM launcher, or simply by replacing RSBE01.gct, the menu2 folder, and the system folder.

Note: The root of the SD card is where you are when you have opened the card but not any folders on it.

Table of Contents:
1:Hackless Installing and Launching PM
Requirements:
  • A North American (NTSC-U) Wii or Wii U console. (No European (PAL) or Japanese (NTSC-J) version of PM is available at the time)
  • An official North American (NTSC-U) copy of the Super Smash Bros. Brawl game disc. (No European (PAL) or Japanese (NTSC-J) version of PM is available at the time)
  • A 2GB or smaller sd card, preferably formatted to FAT32. (Brawl can not read SDHC cards)Note: 2GB cards of the brand “PNY” have been known to actually be 4GB SDHC cards. If you have a PNY card, make sure it does not say 4GB on the back.
  • All custom stages removed from the Wii and the SD card, including the 3 that comes with the game. (Make sure you check the Stage Builder for stages before installation.

Installing PM:

First Download either the Full Set or Wifi-Safe version of the Hackless Wii download from the official PM site.
Locate your download location (for the purposes of this guide i'm using the desktop) , right-click the .zip file you downloaded and extract/unzip it. (If you can't do this then winrar is a good program to use for it)
Open the extracted/unzipped folder and copy everything inside. (If you did not get one new folder with everything inside, make sure you find all of these and put them on the card: private, projectm, boot.elf, codes and gameconfig)
Then open the root of the SD card and paste everything in there.

PM should now be properly installed to the card.

Launching PM:

Insert the SD card into the SD card slot of the Wii (for the Wii U, do this after opening the Wii Menu), then launch Super Smash Bros. Brawl through the Wii Menu. Navigate to the vault and wait there for 5-10 seconds before entering the Stage Builder.
If everything has been done correctly, the PM Launcher should now appear after a short delay.
If this does not happen, check the “Troubleshooting” section of this guide.
