Hey guys, just a heads up that Saturday is now full! (Unfortunately, we actually had 43 people pre-register, meaning that 3 people aren't going to be able to attend D: )

First up, here's how we're gonna do this:
- If you were in the first 40 people Pre-Registered, your spot is guaranteed as long as you're at the venue and signed up BEFORE the Singles bracket starts.
- If anyone from the first 40 Pre-Reg list doesn't show up in time, anyone who has Pre-Registered gets the remaining spots (determined by registration order)
- If there are open spots left after everyone who's pre-registered has gotten there, anyone who's decided to come out to the venue anyways gets the remaining spots on a first-come-first-serve basis.

I really wish I could just let everyone who shows up enter, but unfortunately buildings have fire codes so...

Hey guys, I'd just like to confirm that we will be playing Ultra Super Smash Brothers 4 Turbo Edition I mean patch 1.1.1 on Saturday!
(Clarifying because it's a very major change to the game & Big House 5 is still using 1.10)

Attention Smash 4 players!

Many people have come and talked to me about ruleset stuff, so I wanted to gauge the community interest in some stuff.

First up: Customs!
​

After EVO we switched to alternating weeks between Customs: ON and OFF while the larger Sm4sh community figured out which it would mainly use.

At this point it definitely looks like it's going Customs: OFF, and I've had a few people from around here ask if we can switch to non-customs each week.
What do you guys think?

[] Continue alternating between Customs ON & OFF each week!

Second: Mii Fighters​

So the current ruling on Miis here in Salem is as follow:
"Mii Fighters Legality & Rulings:
- Any combination of Special Moves is allowed.
- During Customs: OFF weeks, only default Height & Weight (Guest Miis) may be used.
- During Customs: ON weeks, non-default Heights and Weights are allowed ONLY if they're in the preset list or with 3DS transfer; exiting Smash 4 (to enter the Mii Maker) is not allowed."

What are your thoughts on Miis?
(Note that the winner of this poll will be used to influence my decision, but is NOT guaranteed to be the new ruling)

[] Default Height/Weight & 1111 only!
[] Ban them all! They're not real characters anyways!

Lastly: Stages​

We have a new stagelist, starting this upcoming weekend (Oct 10th)!

• Battlefield
• Final Destination (& Omegas, same rule as before)
• Delfino Plaza
• Lylat Cruise
• Castle Siege
• Town & City
• Smashville
• Duck Hunt
• Dreamland 64

Changes:

• Removed Halberd
• Removed Wuhu Island
• Castle Siege is now a Starter

Reasonings (For anyone who cares):
So as you know we've kept a few stages that are 'questionable' for one reason or another; these stages are:

• Halberd: Stayed because it's used at a lot of other tournaments
• Castle Siege: Stayed because it's used at a lot of other tournaments
• Delfino Plaza: Stayed because it's used at a lot of other tournaments
• Wuhu Island: Stayed because it's a fine stage, though it's not used anywhere else because "It's a transforming stage" + a glitch that was patched out

Anyways, a decent amount of time has passed since then and I've been checking the rulesets of the recent (and upcoming) Majors, and a few things have changed:

• Halberd is no longer being used in most places, so we'll be removing that.
• Castle Siege is also being used less, however it's still being used commonly so it's staying
• Delfino is used everywhere still, so no changes there.
• Wuhu I've finally given up on; it's not being used anywhere else, so it's getting the axe as well

So basically, we're dropping Halberd & Wuhu due to general disuse and switching Siege into Wuhu's old starter spot so we have even striking still.

Hey guys, so at this point I think the Smash 4 Ruleset questions have been answered! So...

Here are the changes that will be going into effect THIS SATURDAY (Oct 10th)

Customs​

Customs will be OFF every week (instead of alternating like we've been doing) for the foreseeable future!

Miis​

Mii Fighters will now only be legal with Default (Guest-Mii) Height & Weight, and only the 1111 moveset is legal.

Stages​

The new stage-list starting this week is:

• Battlefield
• Final Destination
• Smashville
• Lylat Cruise
• Town and City
• Duck Hunt
• Delfino Plaza
• Dreamland 64
• Castle Siege

Since we have a smaller stage-list, we will also be dropping down to only 2 stage bans now!

I posted the information I gathered at the last Salem Smashfest regarding the Mii ruling that is being imposed.
Here is a summary:

Ban/Restriction Poll data

Out of 38 attendees total:

12 wanted a restriction of any kind (size + moveset)
(see below for breakdown between size and moveset restriction)​

Only 1 wanted a complete Mii ban​

• • Because he thought they were "custom" characters and if we ban customs then they should be banned.

Size & Moveset restriction breakdown

12 wanted a size restriction.

1. Because Eric
2. to help bad players win more
3. It's easier for me to win/less competition
4. No reason (assuming "default" pertained to size & moveset)
   
5. Start with a restriction, but test without restriction later
6. Because it's like allowing them to use equipment
7. Too much diversity
8. Because it changes them (also have to ban Shulk)
   
9. Yeah, it can be changed (also in favor of banning Shulk)
   
10. They are fast (Sonic is in question)
    
11. Making the assumption the moves are custom moves so all characters should be locked to 1111 despite what game developers say.
12. Small is pretty dumb

Only 6 wanted a moveset restriction.

1. Because Eric
2. No reason (assuming "default" pertained to moveset & size)
   
3. Guest Mii ok to start, can test later without restriction
4. It's like allowing them to use equipment
5. Too much diversity
6. Making the assumption the moves are custom moves so all characters should be locked to 1111 despite what game developers say.

Additional information:

• All who were supporting a moveset restriction also assumed support of a size restriction, but not vice-versa.
  
• Nearly all competitors were against a full ban (the one who was may need clarification on terminology).
  
• This means about 2/3 competitors did not support a ban/restriction of any kind (Free Mii).
  
• Most who wanted a ban/restriction were not strongly devoted to their decision, many expressed they didn't know much about the game mechanics or the argument at hand.
• Whereas nearly all who were against bans/restrictions were much more confident about their decision and felt they understood the argument at hand.
• Most of the top players (who rank in top 10 consistently) supported free Mii and were against bans/restrictions, with the exception of 9tails, Shy, and Churro (who deferred to 9tails' decision) only newer players were supporting bans/restrictions.
• All (that is 100%!) of Mii mains/secondaries either dropped their character completely or quit coming to tournaments altogether. Tragic.

If you noticed, in this weeks results post I mentioned that there would be something else coming up soon.

Luckily I managed to finish getting everything set up (well enough for now, at least), so here it is!

The Salem Smashfests are getting big enough that I felt that they didn't really deserve to just be on my channel(s) anymore, so we now have official Salem Smashfest Twitch and Youtube accounts!

From now on, *ALL* streaming will be done at http://www.twitch.tv/salemsmashfests (though I'll be hosting it on my channel reliably as well).

Hey guys, the poll results are in so I'd like to confirm that we're officially changing to a 7-stage list for Smash 4!

Castle Siege and Delfino Plaza are being cut from the stagelist, and we're dropping down to 1 ban during the counterpicking phase as well.


Also, stage striking will now be 2-3-1 (rather than 1-2-2-1).
(If anyone's wondering, this is basically a matter of fairness - it determines who gets the last strike).

Hey guys, sorry I'm late (again... one day I'll be not bad at this again I swear >.>) but IT'S PR UPDATE TIME!

Here's November's PR for Smash 4!

1) T0MMY : In terms of tournament placings t0mMii has been by far the most consistent Salem PR player a of late. While he surprisingly does seem to drop sets to random players early in bracket he still brings it all the way back through losers and places top 3 or top 4. When his Sheik is on point finding openings in his play seems near impossible.

2) Kaito ****: This guy has too many characters. I really mean that. Too many. But whatever, we frequently see him using Link and Robin. And as of very recently he’s decided to finally pick up a high tier and is learning Fox too. His character crisis may be finally catching up with him a little bit though. After months and months of never going below 4th we’ve seen him miss top 8 twice now. He also took a first place last month

3) Braixen: Oregon’s strongest Diddy Kong works his way up to a well deserved #3 spot on Salem PR. Similar to t0mMii he always places in the top 3 or 4 and he seems to drop sets to a much smaller pool of players on top of that. We’ve even seen him take Viviff’s Mario to game 5 in Winners Finals.

4) BroBear: For the first time since Salem PR began BroBear has fallen below the top 3. In general his performances and placings have been the same. We saw him dedicate a few weeks to playing Dr Mario in bracket rather than ZSS and he still pulled places as high as 3rd.

5) 9Tales : Since the last PR he’s moved up a few spots. His losses have consolidated to a more specific group of players and as a result he pulls more consistent placings. He still seems to get completely road blocked by the top 3 players on this list. Also Rosalina is a beautiful goddess.

6) @T1MMY : The brother of t0mMii and second half of the well-known Smash Twins, t1mmy reliably places very well with his Kirby and Meta Knight. He’s definitely known mostly for his Kirby; t1mmy’s been playing him for so long and across so many games that he knows really well exactly what needs to be done and when. He seems to be putting in some work as Ryu lately as well!

7) Ruff!: With his Samus, Mario, and King Dedede, Ruff is roughen’ up the competition and climbing up the PR!

8) Jaxas : After a surprise 3-0 upset of the legendary Justice, he’s unfortunately fallen back into a bit of a rut of self-destructs.

9) FedVsRafa: Fed’s one of our 2 premiere Luigi mains, and has still been securing respectable results as of late. Not letting the nerfs to his main set him back, he’s figured out how to kill easily and reliably at almost any percent!

10) Churro: Churro clocks in once again at 10th on our PR; he’s had some very solid showings but just not on the same level of reliability as those higher on the list. He’s known for his Mario, but his Villager, Falco, and Little Mac are nothing to scoff at either!
