Now open to all regions and scenes, Smashtown 2 will be held on November 8th at West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV. The venue is on the downtown campus in the second floor ballrooms of the Mountainlair Student Union. Doors open at 10 a.m., check-in closes at 12, and we’ll be going until 9 p.m.
Melee Singles, Melee Doubles, and Sm4sh Singles will be included.
Payment will be received at the door. All entrants must register before the day of the event. No entry will be allowed to without prior registration.
The pricing is at $3 per person per game entry, along with a $5 venue fee, meaning the total cost for a single person to enter all three events is $14. The venue fee will be waived if a full setup is provided (both TV and console/game). Hardware for the event will largely be crowdsourced, so in order ensure a streamlined tournament experience, please make an effort to contribute!
Smashtown 2 is a charity event! 50% of the venue fee for each game will benefit the Children’s Miracle Network, while the remaining 50% will be used to cover the costs of organizing the event and to help WVU Smash run future events! 100% of the entry fee for each game will put into a prize pool and split proportionally between the top six placements of that game in the form of preloaded Visa gift cards. Small prizes will also be awarded for making it out of pools and into the final Melee/Sm4sh singles bracket.
There will also be a crew battle held during the event between Northern West Virginia and Southern West Virginia. This will definitely be hype, so be sure not to miss it. The crew battle will likely be held in the downtime between the end of Melee singles pools and the final bracket.
Free snacks and drinks will be provided, but prepare to eat lunch in Morgantown. The Mountainlair features a few restaurants including Burger King, Taziki’s, and Sbarro which open at 2PM. Downtown Morgantown offers additional dining options and is a short walk from the venue.
WVU Smash will be live streaming the entire tournament. Commentary will also be included. Be sure to tweet out the link before the stream goes up at twitch.tv/wvusmash.
Spectators are strongly encouraged, both in person and on stream. We would like to raise as much awareness for this event as possible to draw more attention to the WV smash scene.
Weekend parking is free in the garage adjacent to the Mountainlair.
Registration is now online. To register for Smashtown 2 on November 8th at West Virginia University, please use the following link:
