Mad City Events, Unrivaled Tournaments, and 2112 are excited to kick off Chicago's new Smash Ultimate event series: Second City Smash.
Second City Smash is a new Chicago based Smash event series that focuses multiple event types. We have one goal: play as much Smash as we can. Aside from a traditional tournament, we'll have many opportunities to jump into "mini" brackets and a 12-hour long ladder event all afternoon and night. This is our first opportunity to grind Ultimate after its release in a competitive environment and we're so excited!
A week after the launch of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on Saturday, December 15th we're posting up in The Hangar at 2112 in Chicago with 7,200 square feet of space and both a "traditional" group stage / bracket tournament with a $250 pot bonus, several opportunities to participate in 8-person mini-brackets, and an ongoing ladder paying out $250 to the top 4 leaders at the end of the night. Our main event will kick off first thing in the morning while our mini-brackets and ladder events will start at 1:30pm to allow people to participate in both.
The first-come-first-serve mini-bracket event rounds will feature both $1 and $5 dollar buy-ins in tournament pods with 8 player caps. Each time a tournament pod reaches 8 players, that round starts! Rinse n' repeat all night with 6 full rounds going from 1:30pm to 11:30pm. Unless otherwise noted, there is no limit to how many rounds of mini-brackets you can enter (if we surpass 200 attendees we will introduce a limit of 3 mini-bracket rounds per person allowed, out of 6 available). Each tournament pod during a round will be hosted on 2 setups.
Our ladder event will rely on Smash.gg's ladder functionality, running from 1:30pm to 1:30am. For more details on how ladders work on Smash.gg see here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4DTOc1oPPro
The event will feature 18 guaranteed full Smash Ultimate setups (18x Nintendo Switches, 18x Digital Copies of Smash Ultimate, 18x Nintendo USB Gamecube Controller Adapters, 18x Gaming Monitors, and 18x solutions to ensure security on all of the equipment).
While we’re providing a guaranteed 18 full setups, we’ll have 18 additional available spots for community setups. Provide a full, unlocked, tournament-ready setup for a $5 refund on your venue fee. We will be providing lockable stainless steel security solutions for everyones switches, docks, and joycon contollers. Stay tuned for more details on how this will work.
We've got the venue all night, so even amongst the main event, mini-brackets, and ladder events, feel free to stick around and just play some friendlies! We'll close down the venue whenever everyone leaves or 2:30am... whichever one comes first.
