So my area will be having its first ever Sm4sh crew battle tournament, such hype! I already have a crew set up (the members anyway, the name is still in the air) Looks like I'm crewed together with some of the top players here as well

I must say, I've really gotta stop trying to practice Sm4sh over wifi. That lag causes me countless problems, especially when I go to play locally and find my spacing's gone to heck... Which is very bad for Robins and Shulks. Not to mention I can't Checkmate at all on FG... >.<

However, I find Arcfire chains deceptively easy to get on wifi as well... Is it just me, or are heavies especially hard to deal with as Robin? I find I always get stomped right before I can get the kill.

By the way, that crossguard on the lightsaber in the Star Wars poster... What the heck are they thinking...? Clearly, they haven't seen The Warp Zone's video about lightsaber crossguards.

So next up is chapter 17 of Path of Radiance - the huge four-part map in the Serenes Forest. ...I think I'll leave that until tomorrow. At least Ike only just reached level 20, so he's not losing out on too many levels before he promotes at the end of the chapter.

So I've gotten a few hours under my belt on Tales of Zestiria. The soundtrack so far is pretty awesome. Here's the opening cinematic. This actually doesn't play until you get through the Prologue as it were:

(Japanese version actually has vocals. Us gaigin on this side of the pond just get this instrumental version.) Not that there's anything wrong with that mind you.

Spoiler: No physical spoilers, just thoughts that are best left under a spoiler box... Just in case!

The story so far is somewhat slow, but I'm not totally worried since Symphonia actually started kinda slow and cliché (Help the Chosen One fulfill the Chosen One's Destiny to Revive the dying World) and eventually it picked up quite a bit. I haven't really found such a large spanning arc yet, but I'm patient.

The combat system is far better than Symphonia. Symphonia was like 2.5D, this is fully 3D. And the camera is over the shoulder so you gotta watch your *** as well. Making it quite a bit more interesting.

Whelp, Imma gonna hit the sack. I'll keep throwing tidbits. Hell, maybe I'll just do a video review or something once I'm comfortable and think that I have some measure of freedom and can do a review type thing without risking story spoilers...

I do have one complaint: And that's the lack of a soundtrack on the Steam DLC list...

I also just started Zestiria and heck, maybe I will also throw in some impressions a long the way as well.

Combat feels like a simpler, watered down version of Graces F and slower compared to recent Tales game but still seems enjoyable. I am also seeing a lot of problems for the multi-player aspect since not only does it take ages to get a full party (I'm 3 hours in and I still don't have a 3rd party member let alone a 4th one), armitazation also poses a problem in that respect. Also, camera may occasionally be an issue in cramp quarters but is fine in open fields.

The cast at least isn't offensive and are likeable enough. I particularly like Mikleo's deadpan humor. I'm surprised by how sparse the skits are now though and how they are tied to specific locations. The semi-imprompto nature of skits was a staple charm of the series so I found it odd that they were a bit more restricted now. The ost, however, is a pleasant surprise. I'm not usually impressed by Tales music outside of a few tracks but I'm already liking what I am hearing in Zestiria.

Anyways, off to play more Zestiria soon lol.

According to a friend of mine, that 'crossguard' is actually supposed to be an 'exhaust pipe' of sorts, because the blade is supposed to be much stronger than that of ordinary lightsabers.

Hold on, I need to check on that 'cuz I don't think lightsabers have a heating/cooling system. Might be wrong, though.

Edit: I was right but they do have power insulators to prevent energy discharge.

Does anyone ever feel like they sometimes forget how to deal with "scrub" tactics? Stuff like Mario's d-throw > u-tilt x infinity "combo". I just played one on FG for the first time in a while, and couldn't deal with it at all. I also noticed myself doing a lot of other dumb mistakes, like air-dodging too much after being thrown and getting punished for it, and walking blindly into charging smashes (though that probably also has something to do with my terrible reaction speed). Could be just having an off-day, but I'm not so sure.

Yes. I know how to counter certain tactics, but I forget how to at times. To be honest, I easily get frustrated when I can't deal with such things.

Admittedly, to this day, I can't deal with roll spammers.

I love how Mikleo is and knows that he's in the perfect position to snark EVERYTHING.

As for the multiplayer and character number issue you raised, judging on how you're a aware of armitization, you're REALLY close to getting a third member, and the fourth isn't that far away from that.

Have you used anyone outside of Sorey in combat yet?

you know i just finished Chapter 10 of Shadow Dragon and it wasn't that bad once I gave Julian the Levin Sword and he began actually being useful.

When I face roll spam on FG and I'm using a character that isn't one of my mains, the odds are that I'll most likely lose since I don't have experience with the character and knowledge of his or her tools to in order for me to use the character effectively, but when I actually somehow lose with my mains to a player that did nothing but roll + smash attack/ projectile spam , I get frustrated and it adds even more salt to the wound during times when I've read a roll and I try to punish it, and then suddenly the lagswitch turns on and turns my roll punishing down smash into a jab and thus I get punished for even trying to read rolls due to reoccurring lag that pops up when ever it feels like messing with my inputs.

Bummer. I wanted to see the Cubbies go all the way. Just because that would have been hilarious to see. Since Back to the Future and all.

In Tales of Zestiria news, there is one thing I've noticed and that's that EXP is shared across all characters. Even when a character is out of the party for one reason or another, they'll still get EXP that you earn, so they don't fall behind. I don't know if EXP is given to characters that finish the battle in a KO'd state though.

I'm too much of a badass for that.

Also, before you accuse me of playing on some puny difficulty, I'm playing on Moderate Difficulty (which is the second hardest difficulty I have right now). They go Simple->Normal->Moderate->Hard. I think there's more, but I think I need to beat the game once or more to unlock them.

It is incredibly tempting to pick up ZSS just to deal with a really good Meta Knight player on the island... In fact, he's likely the best player on the island at this time. But then I'd probably get sucked into the same path as Nairo and start benching Robin...
