As for the new characters. Yeah, it can be upsetting that one of your most wanted didn't make it in, but sometimes you have to realize that a fun and unique character can add just as much enjoyment to the game as said favorite.

I don't exactly get this either.

Super Mario, Fire Emblem, Pokemon, and Kid Icarus all got new characters this time around, which, while less than Brawl's veteran series got, we also got a lot more miscellaneous series introduced this time around. Duck Hunt, Punch-Out!!, Xenoblade, Animal Crossing, Wii Fit, Miis...not to mention the third parties.

Say what you will, but there's a good reason for adding more new series IMO: series like Zelda and Kirby already have a good spread of characters, while series like Pokemon and Fire Emblem are constantly changing with their characters.

I can take solace in the fact that Smash 5 is most definitely going to have one hell of a newcomer lineup with the games coming in the following years.

Someone from Xenoblade, maybe a DK character should the series get another game, and most biasedly(that's a word because I say so), Sylux because Prime 4 is most assuredly coming out before a next hypothetical Smash.

Consider the Following;
What if we got Meta Knight/Dedede in 64 had it become a non-rushed game with a good budget and we got to have a Newcomer by one of the 3 future games?
Melee it'd probably be Gooey. (Stuck around with Gameboy / SNES)
Brawl would probably be Marx. (Was around for SNES / DS)
Smash 4 would probably be Bandana Dee. (DS - 2016 Onward)
The problem with Kirby Newcomers is that while we have prominent characters, said Characters usually get drafted after a while and replaced with new prominent characters for that generation.
Kirby, Meta Knight and King Dedede are the only 3 main characters (This does not count goons or helpers) that have stuck around for (99%) the whole time.

Sorta like Zelda characters too, but I ain't a Zelda wiz (I can't even beat the Great Deku Tree at this day and age but can do a No-Hit Run of Expert Kirby's Adventure) so I'll leave dat to someone else.

To be fair, age =/= maturity. There are teenagers who could be more mature than adults.
Age is simply a number in the grand scheme of things.
