Well, crap on a stick. The job I was gunning for and would of set my family and I up for life crashed and burned. Out of the 16 applicants, only two were hired. More over, the two already work as teachers/staff within that district and, apparently, were friendly-friendly with the education office for like, a decade. So the office knew who they were. And as a final jab in the shoulder, the higher ups were already seeking their replacements while the examinations were taking place.
So what I have to show for it is earning the same amount I made when I first started, my job knowing I am looking for a way out as I submitted a “work evaluation request” for my application, minus $400 of traveling and document authorization expenses, three days I had to take off work to do these interviews, and a waste of three days I used to do interviews and exams the whole day (and the stress and anxiety involved. I had to be escorted to the freaking toilet and a staff member was on guard as I took a piss to ensure I wasn’t cheating. That really unnerved me).
Gah.
Oh well, I still have this job and it pays decent. Still, I would have earned triple what I make with two yearly bonuses of $4,000. Plus it’s a infinite contact as opposed to my yearly one. Every year, I worry that they won’t recontract me which means my VISA would be void and as my Permanent Japanese Visa has yet to go through, I would probably be up for deportation.
Edit: the deportation was a bit of exaggeration but a legit concern. I have enough trust in my job that they wouldn’t pull the rug out from my family’s Feet and I know I can submit an emergency extension of stay until either a) I find a new job that can support my VISA or b) I can submit to change my ViSA to a spousal (green card) or Permanent Visa. With either one, I technically don’t have to employed and can take any job or even own a business if I want to.
