Intro:

Why is it that with the obvious support competitive gaming is recently getting, it has yet to truly hit the mainstream?
It's due to companies like EVO and MLG that spend the time competing against each other for attendance and backing,
rather than working together toward a common goal, toward improving the community, toward growing.

It's sad to say, but at present time Smash is reaching a similar stagnation.
Years have past since Brawls release, and I feel like the possibility for a true co-existence
for the Brawl and Melee communities has sadly been neglected.
The majority of discussions at competitions that contain both games usually
delve into poop talk about the other's game, or the players.
This is a mindset that I feel is strangling both communities on the whole.

It only upsets me because I've seen just what this community's capable of.
At Apex 2012, Georgia totaled their car on the way up.
The community stepped up and raised a great deal of money to help the cause.
Just this month, a fellow smasher's house met an unfortunate fate.
The community through nothing more than their own good will has been stepping up to help as best they can,
even if they've never met.

It's acts like these, and I'm sure countless others, that make me wonder;
if we can help save these people from such unfortunate times,
why can't we work together to save our own community?
I've heard many people say they just want to wait for Smash 4.
Like it's some savior that will come and lead us all
to a promised land filled with 300 man competitions,
weekly.

Well that certainly sounds like an easy thing to do,
just wait and hope the next game works out better.
But there's a team of devoted smashers already hard at work,
bringing you the potentially most balanced
smash game that we may ever come to play.
And best of all, it's being designed, and maintained, by US,
the community itself.
We know Nintendo hasn't done the best job at listening,
but here we have people ready, a game that's ready....
Sort of.

Please bare in mind, my goal with this is NOT just to have one giant tournament. I truly hope this just becomes a new trend.

The Belief
I truly believe that if you like Melee, or you like Brawl, you will like Project M. This isn't a random guess, it's coming from everyone I've played it with.

So I'm going to do a couple of things with this belief.

  • I'm hosting a Brawl and Melee tournament, which will also be featuring what I believe to be the debut of a Project:M competition. I understand that it is a new game, and still under some development. Bearing that in mind, the tournament for Project: M will be more or less FREE.

    Let me explain.

Entering EITHER the brawl($5) or melee($5) tournaments requires you to pay a door fee ($5). Paying this door fee will automatically get you put into a P:M tournament bracket. I've spoken with the owners of ZP and they've agreed to allow $1 from the door fee to be added to the P:M pot.
So whether or not you've put in practice, or even downloaded the game, this will at the very least allow every player attending to get their feet wet a little bit.
Maybe even find a character they enjoy.

  • In the following post, you will be able to find tons of information regarding Project M, a really cool trailer, how to download it, and some information on the characters.

  • Every weekend (most likely Saturday afternoons) leading up to the tournament, I'm going to personally stream Project:M. The third post down will contain information on how to find it, as well as videos of past streams. These streams will contain not just footage of the game, but I will be doing Character Showcases, showing off how elements of melee and brawl work together, showing off the new stages, and even discussing a tentative rule set (which I will take suggestions for if you watch the stream).

Where:

5450 South State Road 7, Hollywood, Florida, 33174 Suite Number 41.

Zero Ping is found on 441, between the main streets of Stirling Road, and Griffin. Those are two exits off of I-95. Take I-95 (south or north respectively) Exit off of Stirling Road and head WEST from I-95. When you hit 441/State Road 7 (its the same street) Make a right so you should now be heading NORTH. Go down until the light where the Seminole Hard Rock Casino Parking Garage is on yoru left: Lucky Street. Turn right and go down until you see a building with "ZERO PING" on the Black windows on the corner, turn right into that parking lot.

MONEY STUFF:

Door Fee: $5 (also gets you a spot in Project M tournament)
Brawl Singles: $5
Melee Singles: $5
Doubles for given game: $10 (5 per person)

Payout:

All events will be a 55/25/15/5

Schedule:

10:00AM= Doors Open/Free Play/Setup
11:30AM= Registration of singles events/Door Fee Due
12:00PM= Brawl Singles/Melee Singles/P:M Singles Starts

Doubles
Because this tournament is going to be running multiple games at the same time, due to time constraints, Doubles is ONLY going to happen if we get at least 5 full setups PER game.

Trust me it's not as bad as it sounds. I'm already getting a lot of the TV's covered myself, as you'll see below. So let us know if you can help out in anyway.

Assuming we meet the required number of Setups, doubles will start during the grand finals of singles for a given game.

Setups:

1. ZP_______________2Link
2. ZP_______________
3. ZP_______________

Accommodations:

ZP has agreed that if we reach a TOTAL of just 40 people, collectively between brawl/melee/PM, we could use the computer room for setups as well, giving us TWICE as much space to hang out, be comfortable, and smash.

I will NOT be separating the different games into the different rooms, it will all be integrated.

ZP also has beverages for sale for $1, water/sodas/whatever. If you have a special request for type of drink, announce it here and I'll talk to them about getting it.

There's a food store 2 minutes walking distance from ZP, a McDonalds/BK/Subway a drive down the street, and anything else you want, I can give you directions for in person.

Housing:
I will be providing housing for up to 8 people comfortably. Anymore than 8 people I will have to charge a small fee, since I would than have to use other parts of my house, not just my room.

IF YOU CAN HELP WITH HOUSING:

Let me know and I'll put your name/contact info here.

IF YOU NEED HOUSING:

Let me know and I'll put your name/contact info here.

I'll try to keep this as organized as possible to help those in need.

Rides:

I want to post the cars willing to travel here, as well as the people in need of a ride.

If you CAN drive, let me know where your coming from and how many seats you have available in your car.

If you need a ride, let me know where your coming from so I can help find someone to help.

Rules N ****:
[COLLAPSE="Brawl"]

Brawl rules will be following the Unity Ruleset, Metaknight Banned

[/COLLAPSE]

[COLLAPSE="Melee"]
Melee rules will follow the FC ruleset, if this doesn't meet the needs of the FL melee community, rule changes can be discussed within the thread.

4 stock, 8 Minute Time Limit (first-round pools may be 3-stock, 6 minutes)
Sets will be either best-of-3 or best-of-5 as time allows, announced prior to each stage
Items OFF
Team Attack ON
Pause Disabled during Teams
Ties after the time limit are determined by stocks remaining, then lower (total in teams) percentage. If the
match ends with both players dying at the same time or if time runs out with both players at equal percent,
a one-stock, three-minute rematch will be played on the same stage.
Master Hand and Meta Knight are banned
Continuing uninterruptible moves past 350% will result in a forfeit
Stage List:
Singles_________________Teams
Final Destination ________Final Destination
Battlefield ______________Battlefield
Dream Land 64 __________Dream Land 64
Pokémon Stadium ________Pokémon Stadium
Yoshi’s Story ____________Yoshi’s Story
Brinstar ________________Brinstar
Rainbow Cruise __________Rainbow Cruise
Mushroom Kingdom 2______ Mushroom Kingdom 2
Jungle Japes _____________Jungle Japes
Fountain of Dreams ________Corneria
Mute City _________________KJ64

Set Procedure (Cards will be provided to assist with the process):
1. Players may agree to begin with MBR5 shortened stage list. If there is agreement, players strike
from there using the pattern P1-P2-P2-P1, and counter-stages are limited to those stages only.
2. If there is no agreement, players will begin striking from the list of 11 in the same pattern. The
first three stages banned by each player are banned for the set. The remaining 5 stages will be
open for counterpicks after the first round is played.
3. Resuming from there, striking will then continue until the first-round stage is selected.
4. After the first round, the losing player will select a counter-stage from the remaining choices,
then the winning player will select his character, then the losing player will select his character.
5. No stage may be played twice, unless both players agree.[/COLLAPSE]

[COLLAPSE="Project M"]
The Project M ruleset is currently under construction. This section will be periodically updated as the weeks pass. Stay tuned to the streams to see the thought process/progression.

Project M Info

Sorry for the delay, I've been trying to balance many things and I'm just now getting around to updating the P:M Info portion of this thread.

This post will contain anything and everything I find relevent to downloading, playing, enjoying Project: Melee. Any updates or patches for P:M will be easily found in this thread, on this post, so keep an eye out on this post for any updates.
***Anything major will be shown in the title of the thread.

****
For anyone who already has P:M, please go to the site and make sure you've downloaded Version 2.1.
They've updated the demo and removed many bugs that were reported (as will be seen on their news page below)
****

[COLLAPSE="General Project: Melee News/Info!"]http://projectm.dantarion.com/
This page will show you any updates or patch news that the developers release. It also has a couple videos showing some general gameplay, and a picture displaying the complete (tentative) Project: M Roster. (As seen below)

http://projectm.dantarion.com/about/
This page just delves a little into the minds of the developers if you wanted a better understanding of what they are trying to accomplish with this game.

http://projectm.dantarion.com/community/
This page contains sources for additional info, as well as the link for the chat with the developers if any additional help is needed.
[/COLLAPSE]

[COLLAPSE="How To Download and Play!"]
http://projectm.dantarion.com/downloads/
The following page gives you step by step instructions on how to download Project:M for a variety of different Modded Wii's,

INCLUDING a HACKLESS version of Project M.

This means the developers have found a way for you to upload the game with an SD card, without ever getting your wii modded.

In other words, there's really no excuse someone can't play Project M if they have brawl :p

If for whatever reason you have any issues installing, post in this thread and I'm sure one of us can help you with whatever the issue is. If we cannot help you, the site provides a Chat option with the developers at the bottom of the page.

[/COLLAPSE]

[COLLAPSE="Character Briefing!"]
http://projectm.dantarion.com/characters/

This page will show all but 10 Brawl characters ready for use in Project: M. The colored in characters can be clicked where a short description of the character will be displayed.

I really like how the developers did this part, it's really professionally made, reminds me a little bit of the Smash Dojo preceding brawl's release (except these people actually sound like they know what they're talking about.)

***
I highly recommend everybody reading lucario's discription. In an attempt to make him feel and play like a 2-D fighting character, he brings a new playstyle and ALL NEW inputs to Smash.
***
[/COLLAPSE]

[COLLAPSE="Videos!"]
http://projectm.dantarion.com/media/

This page contains all the videos present by the backroom, ranging from demonstrations to full blown combo videos.

I suggest starting from the bottom and going up, giving the respect of watching the really well made Project:M Trailor first.

If anyone knows of any additional videos regarding Project:M that they think deserve to be noted, post it up and I'll see about adding it to this post.
[/COLLAPSE]

If anyone thinks that I missed something that should be included in this post, please let me know via posting or by PMing me.

taylor, u have a wii for brawl and a seperate wii for project m?
Technically I do, but only if Craig would let me use his which probably won't happen. I didn't think you meant 2 different Wiis for games. But now that I think about it, it was probably obvious. So um just put me down for a Wii and either Brawl or Project M. Which ever game you need more Wiis for. I'd rather be down for Project M cause I'd rather get it on my Wii anyways to practice.

I have an extra copy of both Melee and Brawl. You can put my wii down for whatever you want. One thing you should know David is that ZP no longer has wireless internet unfortunately. I'm not sure how you plan on having a stream.

Well if Tommy G is able to come his phone could provide some internet not the best kind so I'm not sure if streaming with it would be best.

IIRC Kith set up is own internet the last time he came to ZP. Those are the only options I can think of for internet for the stream.

Good luck with this Seibrik. I've played P:M with Shiz and it is an awesome concept. I was in the backroom for a while and the guys there are all extremely dedicated. I really hope it turns out to be a huge success.
