Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

Ok. Excuse me for never having played a Metroid before. But how on EARTH could you have given Dark Samus a unique move set?
I mean, have you ever played Smash Bros with Items before? Look at Assist Trophy Dark Samus as an inspiration.

Furthemore, as always, Boss character have a much more diverse movepool in the games, so plenty of inspiration.

Even Shadow the Hedgehog could work as a fighter with its own moveset.

He is better than Dark Pit too.

Dark Pit probably wishes to be as unique as Dark Samus is.
I doubt it. At the end of Uprising, Dark Pit pretty much stopped giving a **** about what other people think about him.

Even Shadow the Hedgehog could work as a fighter with its own moveset.
"Even" Shadow? He already has a lot of unique abilities, he doesn't need to be a clone to begin with.

That’s the attitude.

And i agree with you on Shadow. That’s why i mentioned him in the first place.

I'm a little disappointed she didn't have anything unique either. Like, at least one move; give her the isabelle treatment, you know? Still....I know its essentially just a palette swap of Samus, but....I may try and learn her lol.

From what I've watched, though, I wanted K Rool the most, but Incineroar may be who I end up maining. I like heavies and gimmicky characters and he looks to be exactly the kind of fun I like play lol.

Even though I don't hate the idea of Echoes, there's actually a few characters I'd rather not have in Ultimate at all if it means them having a chance of getting a unique moveset in a future game.

Dixie and Shadow are the best examples. Since both can (presumably) remain relevant, there's not really a rush to get them in Smash. I'd much rather wait 5-6 years for two unique characters than to see them forever stuck as an unfitting Echo.

I wish Dark Samus had her own original stuff too, but Sakurai's made it clear that this sort of thing is only done to add a character quickly and without having to do too much work when the development is down to the wire. I mean even if they reused her AT assets they would still need to worry about adjusting frame data, hit/hurtbox, scaling, balanced damage and knockback etc. I think she would be really cool as more of her own character, but if it's between having her be very clone-like or not having her, I'll take the former.

The two aren't mutually exclusive though. Think of Luigi, originally an Echo Fighter in all but name to Mario, he's now become his own character with a lot of differentiating elements. It can still happen for the other guys.

Edit: Sorry for double post, I forgot I had posted earlier and dont see anywhere to delete

not salty lol, just tried to come up with a list of 5 "odd" characters that at one point or another came out of no where and were being talked about suddenly.
For a moment, I thought this was our DLC leaks, I would be so upset lol

Geno, Rayman, and Banjo deserve to be in smash!

Maybe, but that's not guaranteed to happen. I'd be suprised if Lucina and Dark Pit ever become unique enough to be their own character.

Personally, I'd just prefer to wait longer so we can get a unique moveset for Dixie and Shadow that represents them better.

The good thing about Dark Samus being an echoe but not a skin?

We will finally get an amiibo of her.

And it will go right into my Metroid collection.

For the record, one of the reasons I'm not trying to genuinely predict the DLC is because my best timeline is if all of them are huge curveballs and if I could predict that then they aren't very good curveballs

So my prediction will definitely be "There will be a lot of generated talk and memes following the announcement of the DLC fighter pack characters."

I could see a leak coming from the game’s code in the future.

It happened on other Switch titles, so it is possible and normal to imagine.

There's no guarantee that waiting will score you those two as unique fighters, neither.

I wonder who would generate the most memes...?
the answer is Zoe

True, but since both are fairly popular, fairly iconic, recurring characters, I feel comfortable with my chances.

Heck, Dixie's hat is already part of a Mii costume. I feel like that's setting us up for her inclusion somewhere down the road, whether that's this time or the next.

I could easily see Dark Samus and Richter get Ken-fied in the next game.
Lucina and Chrom already have enough gameplay differences from their originals so they wouldn't need those(I'd rather much keep the whole "if you find Marth/Roy too complicated, here's a simpler version" which is something I would actually appreciate for all characters with whole-moveset gimmicks).
Just change a few moves here and there and bam, you still have an Echo but they're more unique now.
Maybe not to the same extent as Ken but just giving Dark Samus scatter shot, her cloning and the phazon DSmash and Richter his Holy Water from SotN and Hydro Storm as a Final Smash would be enough to please a lot of people.

Thought process: What if at the moment, Spirits do deconfirm characters but if someone with a Spirit becomes DLC, their regular Spirit is reprogrammed into a Fighter Spirit?

They can use a different art in that case if they want to, tbh.

I'm not sure that'd be possible...
They'd possibly be removing a set match or set abilities they likely had to program in...
Getting rid of it would just be getting rid of content...

Hmm, I've had a lot of questions about Smash lore lately. Like, if they're all toys, why are certain characters assist characters and not fighters? Not to mention Little Mac, Dark Samus, and Isabelle. Why were they promoted?

If they are all toys, it means there are no rules and it's just the whims of the one who plays with them.

Hmmm... but still. Why? By the time assist trophies were introduced, we know that the person who played with the toys was an adult, due to Subspace Emissary. Did this person have some kind of reasoning as to which characters were and weren't?

He had a bias for the ones he made important.

The assist trophies are characters that he uses just to make it feel more alive.

One: Symbolism in Subspace Emissary was very open to interpretation.
Two: Just personal opinions I guess.
Three: Gameplay and Story Segregation

I just had a theory:

The Training mode stage in Ultimate is the homework of the one who plays with the characters’ toys.

Or at least something related to work.

Because not every toy can be the main character of their play story; somebody's gotta be the support. Playable characters are the Saiyans, getting all the love and development for the story that they're playing with while the Assist Trophies are the Krillins lol.

I didn't see this get mentioned, but with all this talk swirling around about a port of or even sequel to The Last Story, is it possible that a character from there would be DLC?

I haven't played through the game myself, and the footage I say was so long ago I don't remember much...

I think Tails would be our first semi-clone/unique character if Sonic ever branches out from just Sonic in Smash. If Echo fighters return for the next game, I could see it fairly likely both Tails and Shadow make it.

If a Sonic character is going to be DLC for Ultimate, it will be Tails. But a 2nd Sonic character is in incredible doubt as of right now. So I can't exactly count on it as much as I would like to.

It's funny how it and Xenoblade Chronicles were the two big Operation Rainfall games and yet people forgot about that one...

Personally the games I'm most upset never came to America were Last Window and Another Code R, but especially the latter because it was easy to import Last Window.

Something bothers me about the DLC.
We're getting five stages to go with the Fighter's Pass characters, yes?

....so what's with the blank slot remaining once all five are added?
Is there like a 6th stage going to be added for free at some point like Duck Hunt (3DS) and Miiverse (Wii U)?
They're not just going to leave that blank, right....?
Just a hunch on my part, but could the empty spot be for the Menu themes for My Music?
In Brawl and Smash Wii U, the menu occupied one of the stage slots in My Music.
I don't know if it's the same for Ultimate and if the Training stage shows up there too in place of Random but perhaps It's for that?

It’s the training stage.

The kid really doesn't like Waluigi that much, he plays with him but not as much as the other characters, that's why he is only an assist character.
The kid that plays with the toys doesn't like that much the characters that are just assist trophies.

All right folks yet another Smash dream coming through. This is unhealthy; I'm obsessing over this game.

Today I dreamed that Alucard got the SMT Nocturne "featuring Dante from the Devil May Cry series" treatment. There was a brand new ad for the game (which I watched through the game's movie mode somehow) that was similar to the banner ad, but when it ended Alucard's voice actor from Symphony of the Night said "Also featuring Alucard!" and a graphic featuring The Game Boy Advance Castlevania games for some reason appeared on the box. I tried showing this to my Alucard-loving friends but accidentally played the Spanish version and they seemed unimpressed. I was convinced this meant he was DLC, though.

So according to my dreams, the Fighter's Pack is:
-Lloyd Irving
-Dr. Kawashima
-Alucard
-???
-???

We shall see if the prophecies come true.
DLC is looking pretty hype if your prophecies come true ngl.

And on that tumblr thing, it’s pretty unfortunate. Some people make a living off of nsfw content, and seem just use it to express themselves. Just a dumb choice all around.
and i also follow a bunch of porn artists so its unfortunate for me but shhh
