Eliwood as a Roy clone doesn't work because Roy is way too aggressive when Eliwood fights just like Eirika and Marth do.
The alternative would be to give him Durandal and make him an Ike Echo.

Nah it's totally justified because Eliwood taught Roy how to fight. Roy even has the Durandal in Heroes

I thought making you unlock almost all the characters was pretty neat. It would practically force you to try everyone over again so you don't have this one guy you never played. Basically, they don't want you to miss out on a character you might like.

Not like any of use could prove or disprove it right now anyway. We have to rely on other people. Most who were playing also couldnt smash their way through tissue paper which didnt help

It has been heavily implied. Sylux made appearances in the secret endings of both Prime 3 and Federation Force, which Tanabe later confirmed were it and stated that he wished to make a game starring Sylux and Samus. So it's definitely a character to keep an eye on.
(note that Sylux's gender is still unknown, even though Tanabe used male pronouns when talking about it)

Come to think of it.... I never saw a Robin spirit in the drive.

They should at least have a fighter spirit.

Lets assume verge is right and we get a DLC SE rep (he recently said minecraft isnt getting a fighter)
Then we add the missing 4 to the line up and we have the 5 DLC chars

tho it seems like a super odd group of chars to have as DLC that being a SE rep/Sylux/porky/Fossil Fighter/Adeline but nintendo did pick them this time and everyone is back so smaller names might not be too out there. Especially after the plant and the fact that the fighter pass was preorder.
