I see Smash 4 as Melee minus pretty much every tech.

With Melee, it had a lot of offensive play and more advance techniques that made it more enjoyable. Smash 4 is soft of a mix of offense and defense.

These guys didn't mention hops or stalls because they're techniques, not inputs. All the things they mentioned were 1-press actions. Its like saying there are 3 ways to approach: Grabs, Attacks, and Shields. Technically there are 17-something ways to approach, but those are the basic ones. That makes sense to me at least.
