I first learned about her way back as a 12 year old kid in an issue of Nintendo Power and I thought her games looked cool. I never really learned much about her series though until Smash 4 was in full swing and she was brought to my attention by videos on YouTube.
Technically, she was 10th if you consider the whole thing about Bayonetta already being developed when the ballot just started.
Still wanted to get the games, but I voted for her anyway.
What kind of parenting is that?
Looks like she did fairly well and she has a really good chance since Sakurai is pulling from the Ballot. Shantae would be much easier to get than Banjo-Kazooie and possibly Geno.
She just thought I already had enough gaming consoles (had a SNES and N64 at the time). Call it overprotectiveness. She doesn't mind nowadays tho.
Pirate's Curse was my foray into the series! I remembered being curious about it as I only knew of her from hearsay and friends who played the original, so I figured I'd give PC a try when it first released. Naturally I voted for her in the Ballot later on. :D
Yes, Pirate's Curse was a big hit on the 3DS eshop, and it has the game I started with. Risky's Revenge was re-released on Steam, so that is right now the best place to get that game.
The entirety of the old trilogy is available to buy on the e-shop, including Risky's Revenge (like all DSi games).

I think Geno has some high chances now that SquareEnix is on board of smash. I don't think there's that high for Banjo though.
Honestly, I feel like the less a character appears in leaks the better their chances in some regards. Shantae is a character with a big possibility, but everyone around this site and elsewhere is writing her off because Shovel Knight was already confirmed as an assist. They think it'd be Shovel Knight by himself, both of them in together, or neither of them. It's not even registering as a possibility in their minds and that's honestly a big clue as to how you can tell a fake leak apart from the real ones: they take no risks. The Smash community has never been 100% correct when it comes to speculation, and it's because they always try to play the odds. Duck Hunt Dog, Wii Fit Trainer, ROB, Game and Watch, and Cloud are just a few of the characters that have thrown everyone for a loop, and it's because nobody thought they had a realistic shot.
It's pretty telling that

has been the only one on here who believed that the Duck Hunt dog could be viable. Most people try to be realistic about who can make it, only for Sakurai to take them for a loop, every time.
To me it's simple on that front. A character is a big investment. Would you really invest that much in 2 indie characters, or just one?
I'm not saying paper mario wouldn't make it in, but I feel like that's a little unlikely, to have one more mario. I don't think Banjo will be in because of microsoft (but again, still possible), that leaves for the 4 top spots:

Bayonetta may act suggested but her clothing isn't revealing.
ZSS alt outfits and Bayonett's outfit stripping away during a smash attack disagrees with that.
Didn’t they adjust her clothes a bit? Same with female Corrin and Palutena. A few tweaks here and there in Shantae’s outfit should do the trick too, I’d reckon.
They could always have her put the vest on if that helps.

Yeah, I don't see how that will be a problem for Shantae when you can literally see Palutena's underwear (and you could see Peach's back in Melee). And Bayonetta is a risque character from an M rated game. Shantae shouldn't be a problem.
AT Krystal would like to have a word with you. Honestly I'm surprised they gave her the Adventures outfit.
I've debated this. I think a good way they could implement her is as a 3D model with a cartoon shader that makes her look 2D (not like G&W who is actually 2D). I think that would emulate her look pretty accurately.
