Lloyd Irving
Popularity: Well, he seems popular among Tales fans. But not as popular as Pac-Man among Smash fans, to say nothing about overall.
Relevancy: He does have a decent Nintendo connection, so he wouldn't be an outrageous choice from that aspect. But he's not a video game icon - he doesn't rise to the level of a Snake, much less a Pac-Man, Sonic or Mega Man.
Design: I'm sure this is fine.
Roster and Competition: Aside from other 3rd parties, the problem is that Namco isn't likely to get more than one character, and Pac-Man is far and away the obvious choice for a Namco rep. Pac-Man doesn't have the strong connection to Nintendo that Mega Man or Sonic does (Sonic being Mario's rival at first, and now becoming more closely associated with Nintendo over time), but he is the most famous characters in gaming (essentially tied with Mario, and beating icons like Sonic and Donkey Kong).
Legal/Marketing: Nintendo would have to have some grudge against Pac-Man to pick Lloyd over him. Pac-Man seems a much better fit for the "all-star" theme, and probably would be better for marketing. Most people know who Pac-Man is, and will find his inclusion cool. Most gamers don't know who Lloyd Irving is, I'd guess. And I can't imagine that Namco finds the marketing benefit of Lloyd to outweigh Pac-Man either.
Lloyd Irving chances: 0.5%
Simply put, he gets crushed by Pac-Man. The difference between them is like Super Mario vs. Marth.
Lloyd Irving want: 40%
I'm mostly indifferent. But he seems to step on the toes of Shulk and Isaac a little bit in the kind of move set he would have, and I'd rather have either of them. I've also warmed up to Pac-Man a little bit. I still find him boring, but I won't be annoyed by his inclusion.
Mike Jones prediction: 4%
Yeah, mostly forgotten Western only release isn't going to rate too high. I've been promoting him because I thought he was the most interesting retro character left to rate.
