Awww don't hat eon Daft Punk! I do agree the Daft Punk parts do seem a bit out of place at times but the beat is the base of the song. I agree, I listen to it before I go to the dance clubs or when I go running. If you like the melodic, sing-songy parts; check out "Starry Sky" by CAPSULE. That is where it's from.

The first part is fairly repetitive but not in a bad way. As you said, the main melody picks up and it became pretty fun to listen to. However, while it was fun to listen to, it didn't fully keep my interest throughout the song. While I blame it for being 6 mins in length, it also lives up the curse that so many techno/rave songs suffer from.

At times, the beat is the same and just repeats. Instead of actually listening to it, you are just chilling to it. Which can be a bad and good thing; depending on what you are looking for. Overall, I enjoyed it after the melody came in but I found my mind wandering throughout the song.

Plus, I was surprised to find this was from "Conker's Bad Fur Day" lol.

Here is my submission:

"Non-Objective Portrait of Karma" - Circle Takes the Square

Lyrics begins at 3:20. Also, please read the lyrics while listening to it. I found the lyrics to be very interesting.

Lyrics
Very nice and meditative beginning. Feels like I'm sitting on a beach next to a very sad girl while the sun sets. The weird layered vocals and the building momentum is cool. I like the buildup, but I feel like it switches too abruptly into the screamo. Just a few more seconds of spoken word stuff would have been perfect.

Very passionate and emotional. I love the lyrics and the delivery. I like screaming that has a good presence of the vocalists' normal voice. Hard to explain, but that sort of "whiny" quality that screamers like this have is really emotional and interesting to me. I like it more than typical death growls and stuff.

very good song.

I think his sporadic vocals are what's keeping me from really loving this song. The lyrics are strong--independent of form constraints and... consistency in general lol (kind of jumping between grandly obscure visuals and snippets that are just like "idgaf I'll talk about burritos").
The noisy nature of their musicianship is starting to grow on me. Dunno if it's just from hearing more of them every so often or if this is just less intentionally-messy than other songs of theirs. I like it.

I love the intro and the piano section in the beginning. Very interesting and a excellent contrast to the general rock theme.

The vocals are interesting. Not sure if I like them but interesting never the less. I am not ahuge fan of songs where the vocals just belt out the lyrics but this is listenable. I am digging the piano parts; especially when it goes from loud to soft.

Generally the, song flows well together.

I really like the electric guitar part near the end. The ending was really good and I liked how it was totally opposite on how the beginning was: loud and soft.

Very interesting. Not something I would listen a lot too but I liked it overall.

The vocals kind of hold it back, 7/10, but could've been an 8. Simple, catchy, straight to the point with no waffling.

Cruachan - To Invoke The Horned God

I'm in love with this drum intro.

the flute and banjo threw me off initially. I think I just don't really like the way they interplay with this specific guitar tone. I like when it goes straight black metal and the vocals come in.

The folk interludes are reminding me of Jethro Tull hardcore except the flautist is not as virtuosic.

I like how the second "verse" isn't the same as the first. The different chords and style of playing keep it fresh.

Alas, by the end I feel like this folky section has worn out its welcome. There's only so many times I can hear that same flute line with zero variation before it gets old.

Overall quite solid, but could have ended about 45-60 seconds earlier.

I thought that airy tone in the beginning was kind of familiar, but I'm sure I've never heard this before. Pleasant, basic vocal melody. That fast exhaling thing she does is a kind of genius way to complement the pace at the parts of the song that she does it. Ambient without losing its bounce.

It makes me wanna move. In place or around. Just move.

I always love intros that start with very few instruments. I am loving the guitar sections of the song. Very well put together with a balance in between the all instruments and vocals.

It has a very groovy beat that makes me want to sway back and forth while closing my eyes (not in a hippie way). I love 2:30 onwards. It kind of sums up the mood of the song. Not particularly thought provoking or extremely technical yet it has it's own grace to it. A very good song and a real surprise.

I will be adding this to my collection.

5/5 AWESOME!

Something entirely different now. I just happened upon this and was like ".....really? Interesting."

Think it's pretty good. Love the guitar work throughout most of the song, as well as the the clean vocals during the chorus. Hell, I think the only bad thing are the growling vocals, which I never really got into, however I feel as though the phenomenal guitar/bass/drum work more than makes up for it. I should probably go out and get it.

Interesting beginning. I'm not sure about that guitar tone though. I definitely like the rhythm.

As it goes on, it gets kinda meandering. 3 minutes in and I'm not really sure what this song is trying to do or where it's going. To be honest I was getting pretty bored until that solo thing came in. That's a neat effect on the guitar.

The very end is pretty cool too...but eh...mostly this song is just boring to me. Tool's very hit or miss for me and this song doesn't do it.

Wow, so old, but I would make a case this was the beginning of Eminem's prime. His flow is steady, and he's always finding a way to rhyme his next line while making sense. Sticks with the theme of murder as well, and the beat is simple yet has a sad/ominous tone to it.

A rather mellow pace for a song you'd expect to be a bit more energetic and violent with. Still though, I think this is a fine song to listen too if you're into Eminem's violent stuff (though I would say this is a bit toned down)

Lol, I remember listening to TFK waaaay back in the day. Sadly, any of their albums after their first release was mediocre rock. The first album was pretty amazing though.

This is a perfect example of the sort of watered down boy band posing as rock band nonsense that has plagued the radio since the late 90s. Giving this a -90000/10.

The opening was pretty interesting. I really liked it! I am digging the female lead vocals but the guitar work is pretty repetitive. I really liked it at 2:53. Overall a pretty good song. It is easy to jam and relax song. I was wondering if most of their music was like this type of vibe. The only problem, as I mentioned, I found the guitar too reptative and slightly took away from the female vocals.

Overall a pretty interesting song with great female vocals.

dreamy! i'm a sucker for simple happy bouncy instrumentals so the beginning of this song is making me satisfied.

yessss, I'm very happy to not hear any vocals come in and ruin it. The song stays nice and solid throughout. Almost sounds like a song that could have been on Discovery if there was some vocoder vocals over it or something.

Oh cool, an opinion without any sort of explanation. Stay biased and subjective.

Well, not a fan of the heavy screaming for the first half of the song, and I'm glad the lyrics were posted in the description, cause they are rather interesting. Nothing special in the first half in terms of the instruments. Once again, not a fan of the genre, so I wouldn't know much about it. I really dig the second half, even though it is a total opposite of what the first half was. Once you get into it, it sort of becomes like a mellow trance.

I thought that was how all music discussion works. Wouldn't an objective discussion of music be pretty dull and pointless. "Yeah, it has guitars, they're distorted. This band has a vocalist, a drummer, and probably a bassist but I can't tell since if he is there he's just playing the root note of the chords. This sounds exactly how they intended it to, so I guess that makes it a 10/10 for the intended audience, and not a 10/10 for the unintended audience." That would be the majority of this thread.

No, I am not saying to be objective, but to still have some reasoning behind your scores. I dislike some genres and artists, but I would never give them a failing score simply because I don't like it. If I feel like the music is still executed well, then I will give it a respectable score. While I agree mainstream music is lesser in quality compared to lesser known artists, you should not penalize them, because of what the mainstream audience listens too.

It's just in general acknowledging it for what it is. You might not agree "X" game is for you, but does that mean you should give it a failing score? Same with movies and books. It also hurts to essentially say "This sucks" without giving any semblance of reason.

I can't say I like the guy's voice too much, but there is a kind of heartfelt effort you can tell he's got. Maybe it's just cuz I'm not in the mood right now, but it's kind of a downer. The last minute or so is the best I think. the atmospheric background vocals, his speaking, and the soft little guitar mesh the best then I think. Not a bad song.

I really liked the introduction of the song but, throughout the course of it, I slowly lost interested. I am not sure why as to why I lost interest but possibly the vocals turned me off. While I like some forms of hip-hop/rap, it is usually a hit or miss with me.

But it was still fairly interesting and, while I didn't read the lyrics, they sounded though provoking in a way.

That beginning is very familiar....wish I could place it.

very nice as the other instruments come in. vocals make me feel dreamy.

the distorted guitar comes in and somehow fits perfectly. I also love the use of silence here.

then some other vocals come in (I think? sounds like a guy now) and it is very pretty and melancholy.

Uh, okay, that solo was a bit much. It really doesn't make sense to me considering the first 6 minutes of the song. It's a nice solo, it's just this song REALLY didn't need it.

I like this song. Very pretty and dreamy and spacey and emotional. Without the solo I'd love it even more!

Wow. I just finished listening to a quiet song where the volume was already turned down so my volume, on my headphones, was to the max. I am surprised my ears are bleeding.

Anyways, loved the opening. Interesting use of vocal manipulation.

Very chaotic guitars and drums but has a since of organization to it. It just somehow fits. I am liking the shredding portions.

I good contrast between the shrieking and death growling vocals. Not a HUMONGOUS fan of guttural death growls but overall, they balance each other out nicely and play off from each other in a ballad that reminds me of a chainsaw fight between a lumberjack and a ballerina. Low and high vocals.

****-tastic guitar solo!

Overall, a great example of death metal/deathcore. Not a area of metal I usually go into but, nevertheless, a pretty good song.

EDIT: Luigitoilet, maybe it's just me but I think we have similar tastes in music.

Love that weird effect at the beginning.

Actually, most of the song is really up my alley. Constant shifting rhythms and dynamics, offbeat harmonies and passionate vocals. Love the guitar tone.

Really love those clean vocals near the end too. I'm a sucker for clean and harsh vocal harmonies and here it's done very tastefully.

I nwas like "WTF" at the beginning of the song.

I am not quite sure about the crazy screaming at the start of the song but it was pretty interesting. Not my cup of tea but fairly interesting none of the less. I was expecting some 80s hairmetal to come in.

Oh god! I loved the moment the loud music suddenly went quiet into a very oriental solo. It was hard to describe but kind of tied everything in together. There might be chaos and hysteria but, somewhere inside of it, is the quiet moments. It can be applied to life in a way. Maybe I am reading too much into it but, even though it came only once and was fairly short, it was fit well into the song.

The rest of the song carried on like before without much change. I was kind of expecting something different.

Overall, a interesting and well put song that weakened near the end. My only favorite part was oriental interlude in the middle.

What was so strange about it? Explain your reasoning besides dumb-down one lined sentences?

I nwas like "WTF" at the beginning of the song.

I am not quite sure about the crazy screaming at the start of the song but it was pretty interesting. Not my cup of tea but fairly interesting none of the less. I was expecting some 80s hairmetal to come in.

Oh god! I loved the moment the loud music suddenly went quiet into a very oriental solo. It was hard to describe but kind of tied everything in together. I don't know how to explain but basically its just not my cup of tea... If I have to explain anything about it...I'd say it does not sound like music to me and it basically makes me uncomfortable....

Is that your answer to my question or was that your rating from the song I posted? In any rate, you failed to properly rate it again.

I think everyone else should just ignore rinisan's posts. If he posts no substance replies like that again, just rate the person who posted before him and forget he ever posted. that's only fair, to me. he's ruining this thread ;(

for instance:

Venus' song:

Very pretty beginning. Makes me want to get a cocktail at a cocktail lounge.

Interesting voice. I like the whispery raspy quality it has.

I'm not sure about the chorus. It sounds really "flat" to me for lack of a better word.

love the keyboard solo lol. wanna do jazz fingers

also, this girl is very pretty :)

solid song. didn't entirely grab me but it's a good listen.

Or at least until puts a bit more substance into his critiques.

As for your song, at first I thought Modest Mouth sounded a lot like Modest Mouse. I am not sure if it was a typo but it made me lol a little.

Overall, I love the start. Modest Mouse is an amazing band overall. It's hard to explain why but their songs are very deep and thought provoking but fun to listen to. I just love Isaac Brock's voice.

Overall, I love when it goes suddenly quiet and melodious between 2:00 and 4:00. I really enjoyed that portion. I loved the guitar effect 4:51 for some odd reason and the subsequent use of it.

I liked it but maybe I am biased because I love Modest Mouse.

Here is a video I took of a High School Taiko Team (Japanese insane traditional drumming) doing a performance at my elementary school. I don't know the name or which High School but they are extremely popular and go on to play in professional teams. I titled this song "The Conch Shell"

Sorry it took me a while; I've been busy.

Rinisan, don't post one-liners with no real reasoning. If you don't like a specific song give more than one reason why. Consider this your only warning, but just stop and we won't have a problem, k?

@above: Not gonna rate due to not beng able to post a song right now, so the next poster will do the honors, heh.

Also Taiko games are fun.

This was a nice performance! I loved how at the 4 minute mark, the rhythm from the drums accompanying the constant notes from those in the second row made it almost sound like blast beats accompanying chugging of guitar. This is a great example of drumming both evolving over time and still we use these traditional, ancient rhythms and patterns in newer ways!
