It's quite common to end up with conspiracy theories when we overthink things. Just need to take a step back and evaluate the situation logically for what it is.

I suspect Sakurai is probably much too busy releasing a giant international video game to be sneaking around on the net making fake images to fool everyone or making and sending fake modded game versions to the USA.

Yes he would've been aware there's a very good chance of a leak. But that's just the nature of game development.
At least they managed to keep it from being leaked in Japan where it was developed.
Nintendo America just need to get their **** together next time.

The mark left of Dark Pit's head is probably one of the "wings" of his staff. He's probably holding the staff's head in front of him.

The problem with that is that the head is slightly higher than the wings. You also must take into account the angle in which the staff is in the CSS. There is too large of a gap for it to be the wings imo

Perhaps they edited the size of the staff as they have with Palutena's Bow, which is pretty big compared to how it was in Uprising. The Dark Pit staff's wings spread out just enough for me to make it out on the render there in my opinion.

Nintendo can do everything in their power to prevent a leak, but if someone's going to leak from the ESRB then there isn't much they can do about it. It's not like they can just refuse to have the game rated.

There were three separate leaks in the USA.
The text one in July from the game tester, the ESRB image posted on smashboards front page and then the video.

I don't think it's so much that anyone's against the theory, we just have absolutely no evidence that that will be the case. This leaked roster seems fairly self-contained. That doesn't mean what you described would be impossible, but neither is it particularly likely.

All right, I think I've gotten over my melodrama. I'm now wondering how the Doctor and how Dark Pit play. I'm also wondering how Lucina's custom moves will turn out. Will they mimic Marth's or will Sakurai decide to put in a little bit more effort?

I know I said it earlier but I still have a feeling that we wont get any big announcement until maybe 3 days before the release in Japan. They did it with Hyrule Warriors (Ganondorf arguably being the big announcement) and they'll probably do it with Smash. Not to say we wont get anything at tomorrow's direct or PAX, I do hope we do but my gut says we'll get a huge send off reveal around that time.

Leak almost guaranteed? Plan it into marketing strategy. Use 'weakness' as advantage.

I want Ridley, K. Rool, and Mewtwo as much as anybody else does (there's still a chance guys, calm down), but I still don't understand how anybody can hate this roster.

Regarding Dark Pit, I can understand why people might dislike him right now (although personally I think it's great to see him, and my girlfriend's gonna flip out when she sees him) but it's not as if he's taking a spot from anybody else.

I think this roster is amazing.

Seriously guys, stop and think. We got:

Little Mac
Villager.
Rosalina.
Bowser Jr.
Charizard as his own character!
Greninja!
Instead of Chrom we got friggin' Robin AND Lucina!
We got MEGA MAN AND PAC-MAN.
SHULK!
THE FRIGGIN' DUCK HUNT DOG.

Not to mention a ton of the Veterans we all know and love.

It's already incredible we have a fighting game where Pikachu can duke it out with Samus Aran, this roster I think has gone above and beyond what a lot of us expected already.
