Though while Pit, Fox and other characters have some great personalities, most Nintendo characters are static, I really like dynamic characters he grow, develop, and change during the course of their journey.

I like Xenoblade, but it definitely won't beat Mother 3 as the game that impacted me the most. Funnily enough my 3 favorite characters in Smash, are some of the most personality depth Nintendo protagonists, Ike, Lucas, and Shulk. :bee:
I played Mother 3 during a tough time in my life. Also started playing Brawl alot during that time alot too. Mother 3 and Lucas's story touches my heart. Everytime I play Brawl, I play as Lucas..feels like a direct extension of my soul, lol.

Yeah, before Lucas and Shulk, he was most likely the most dynamically made Ninty character up at that point. I really recommend the game if you're liking the grand scale of Xenoblade, probably the grandest feeling FE game rivaled by it's sequel Radiant Dawn and old favorite Genealogy of the Holy War. I always like characters that have a noticable sense of internal stuggles.

Shulk's really, really growing on me the further I get in Xenoblade. He certainly has a very defined character arc, more than even Lucas. And it's all pretty subtle- we get to see his change instead of it being sudden. I'd argue he's one of the best-written protagonists in a Nintendo game, but I haven't played nearly enough games to fairly compare. In terms of games I've played, though, he's one of the more well-defined.
Me and a bunch of other pre-release Shulk supporters have a private convo, and we've talked about this more times than I can count. :p It's a shame that a certain meme makes people not really understand how deep Shulk's character is though... :/

So, this is a good read guys. I'll warn you, it's long, but it's really good. It reminded me about alot of the depth behind Mother 3's plot, and another reason i love it so much. It's alot like Xenoblade aswell in terms of it's plot that makes you think and such, and how well made and done it is.

Also, don't let the title of the website turn you away, it's not what you think, it's not some porn site or anything like that, i promise.

It does make me sad. I mean, the meme is funny, but it's basically become his entire character and that's VERY far from what he is in Xenoblade.

I knew there was more to him than a certain feeling going in, but I didn't realize how well-written he was. I think he might tie with Lucas for my favorite Nintendo protagonist of all time... Heck, he might have at least passed Dunban and Riki in terms of my favorite characters in Xenoblade at the point of the game I'm at.

Both games, in my opinion, are smart stories done right. By that, I mean they make you think about things you normally wouldn't, but it never feels pretentious or condescending in the slightest.

I think I'll just have them both share my favorite game ever spot.:p

Until a few of the most recent scenes with Shulk I've hit, Dunban was my favorite. He's still VERY close. He's suave and awesome and just kicks all of the butt. Anyone who can make a move called Blossom Dance made of epic deserves all of the praise.

Yeah that writer had a very well-thought out analysis there. Much of it I agreed it, there were a few minor points I thought he or she could have explored a little better or even occasionally disagreed with but they were almost always insubstantially minor. It really summed up much of what I'd been thinking about the game (for instance, I did understand the turn-around of Earthbound's lovable modernity and suddenly Mother 3's distaste for the human element was a thing, but I wasn't really sure why, and it clarified my unease surrounding the entire final chapter of the game, how Porky's childish, fake and superfluous display represents a twisting of humanity, the goodness of people turned into unknowing suffering, etc).

It was very classic of an academic analysis hehe, threw me back to school. :p

Still need to read that analysis. Haven't been in the mood, since it's quite literally a wall of text. :p

It warms my heart.
Oh and my Ness Amiibos arrived today :p
We won't get wave four until the end of May, and preorders are absolute hell. There's nothing I want more than Ness and Lucas.

So I found my 3DS and deleted that girl's FC! :D

I'll probably replay Mother 3 sometime after my overheating laptop gets cleaned out.
Play it on your Wii or Wii U virtual Wii (through emulation, of course.) It feels much better to play the game on actual Nintendo hardware. Maybe I'm just being weird.

I got Ness today! Super happy. Hi btw @ Spazzy_D Spazzy_D .
Hi!

I just want to point out, since someone said something about Earthday, that I made sure my last play through of Earthbound ended on Earthday, and my last play through of Mother (Earthbound Zero version) ended on Mother's Day last year. I should start a Mother 3 play through and see if I can wrap it up by May 10th.

Decided to read that analysis this morning, and yeah, it was indeed much longer than I expected lol. Quite a bit of it maintains a level of interpretation by the author, so there's bound to be disagreements (for instance, I lean more toward the "dumbed down" side when it comes to various gameplay elements). I did appreciate the section that discussed the intricacies of how the Tazmily "community" worked before and after the time skip though, the whole "close-knit band of brothers and sisters" versus "self-centered and separated modern society" thing, and why the town's urbanization was such a big deal.

However, I feel like there's another key point to the story's theme that wasn't addressed regarding the origins of the people in Tazmily and the choices they made. When Porky chastises them for those decisions, there's a definite element of "those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it" - perhaps more specifically, "learn from your mistakes instead of running from them". This is still framed within the overarching theme of "humans are flawed", and it does fit well, but for me at least I now have trouble really taking the initial "close-knit band of brothers and sisters" version of Tazmily that seriously because of the faulty reasoning that led up to it. In that sense it even starts to take a bit of priority over the "modernization is bad" theme displayed throughout other parts of the game. Certain real-life experiences tend to make me more receptive to the "learn from your mistakes" idea though, so it's not like I hold anything against the author for not talking about it or anything. We all focus on different things because of how we were shaped beforehand, and stories as rich as Mother 3's bring that to the forefront.

Actually, gonna keep the whole thing is spoilers just to make things a teeny bit easier.

The whole identity thing is surprisingly intense, but the game doesn't prioritise it too much over Porky's modernisation of Tazmily. I also noted the way the humans had dealt with the near-destruction of the world was going to cause problems later on and could have been looked into - issues surrounding raising a child to believe something about their world that simply isn't true (and I too have had very personal, RL experience with this idea) and possibly causing a shattering identity crisis when they find out about it later on.

And yeah, certainly seeing Tazmily get sucked into presumably the same type of seppuku is really sad, and lends to the darker side of M3 which portrays the weakness in humans.

That's why the main story is so important, as they did mention, the ties between the breaking of Lucas' family kicking off this change (and repeat of mistakes), and then the reunion of Lucas' family at the very end breaking the cycle and offering a new path forward (made much more obvious by the *real* ending of the game and the symbolic changing of the 'Mother 3' logo).

It'll get even more active once June gets here. (E3/my b-day aka Flag Day and Lucas's return to Smash) :p

Also Mother 4's release will probably draw a few people too. =P

Does anyone here ever get that daydream of somehow contacting Nintendo and going through their love affair with Smash Brothers, the Mother series and stuff?

I wish Nintendo of Australia actually had an e-mail service. @.@

Yep. I'm so lucky. (I've heard that 14 is a lucky number, and I was born on the 14th of that month)

Not to mention Finding Dory and Toy Story 4 coming up in the next two years. (2016 and 2017 respectively) right after my birthday. (Finding Dory - June 17, Toy Story 4 - June 16)

One thing i'm worried about is Palutena guidence, will it be the same as Mewtwo's? think about i.t

this game has claimed that the Subspace Emissary is canon to this game (such as R.O.B. being the last of his kind, G&W being made of shadow bugs and Palutena knowing that Mario and Pit worked together at one point), which means Lucas and Pit have met before.

so when pit says "Who is that?" it will feel quite awkward.

Unlike most, I actually don't think Nintendo will freak out too much or consider it too big a deal to ask the voice actors to come back in for another paid day of work. I'm sure it'll be fine, though if Mewtwo's guidance is freakishly general then I could be proven wrong.

I beat Xenoblade last night, and without spoiling anything, I will just say I see where the Mother 3 comparisons come from now.
I like this much better than the official reveal trailer.
"Get rekt scrub" for new Lucas taunt please.

So this is kinda funny in a morbid way.

So you go up the ladder to find a ripped piece of Hinawa's dress, and the atmosphere is great. The jingle when you pick it up is depressing as hell, and the music is great.

Then you enter the cave next to it.

You run into this lil fella

And this plays:
