I still need to replace 8 SSS sets, but I got it to load 37 different pictures.
If I can find the remaining 8 today, I maybe can post a vid showing it tonight.
EDIT: Got them.
But in order to stay under the file size limit (which I now know is 4626kb), I had to resize some preview pictures to 44x44.

Hah, I've managed to squeeze in 37 new icons for my stage select screen now (using IDs 32-49, and 61-79), and I've re-done the entire PAT0 file so that every stage can potentially use its own game and series icons, instead of sharing the ones from other stages. Got pretty close to the file size limit, though (only less than 2KB away).

Ok, I'm using slot 32 for my Hyrule Castle 64 icons, and all of the images work except there's one issue. When I hover over Random or the next stage page, the Triforce symbol shows up where the series logos show up.

Moving your new added MenSelchrMark.32 entry in lambert113 to the spot right between MenSelchrMark.23 and MenSelchrMark.50 fixes it. Apparently the order of the entries mean something as well.

Ok so I'm trying to complete this Custom Stage Starter kit but every time I add a FrontStname, it comes out all corrupted. Funny thing is, its only when I place it as 14, CMPR doesn't do it. Whats the deal?

I've already added 37 icons and prevbases (file size is currently 816kb, as seen in my previous upload) and they all work properly in game.

I read this entire thread, and I got 90% of it down.
Only thing I can't understand too well is what needs to be done. This would be so much easier if there was a tut for this -__-

What I can't figure out is how to start out adding icons and what needs to be done first. I have the codes, and Eternal Yoshi's maxed out SSS with all the proper coding to give all the icons their appropriate icons, names, marks and previews.

I have all the .rel's and .pac's ready.

I just don't know how to start. What's first?

Well I'm working on a "starter kit" that includes placeholder icons, prevbases, etc for all 37 extra stages atm and all you'd have to do is replace the placeholder's with your pics, but right now (as seen in my previous post) I'm stuck on the stage names.

@RTB upload it, I'll try it out!

EDIT: I think what else would save quite a bit of memory is by replacing the MenSelmapMark's and MenSelchrMark's with black .png's, rather than reducing the image size of the icons and prevbases.

Yes, apparently its something wrong with the image because I switched it for another one and it worked, so I'll remake that and see whats up. Hopefully finish this by tomorrow

Ok, so apparently you're not supposed to index the name images. Note taken.

I'll clean it up and make it more of a "template" later, but here's my SC_SelMap.pac. A lot of the icons were taken from others (mainly the 88x88 ones from libertyernie's pack), or kinda thrown together (like the "next page" icons), though. However, if anyone wants to take a look at it right now, here it is. This one should allow you to give each stage a different series and game icon, not just the portraits.

ID #60 is blank in the file, because setting that to anything other than a blank will give icons to the buttons at the bottom of the page. Also, use hex values 20-31 and 3D-4F for the custom stages in your SSS.

Yeah took my a while to figure out why selecting random showed a portrait xD
Just skip 60, 80, and 81, and the 37 files are conveniently 32-49 and 61-79..like if Nintendo wanted us to add 37 more stages O_o

I feel stupid -__-
I have the first 3 .rel's and .pac's ready. Codes are all set. Stage Select is all set.

Why is it that I go to select a custom stage and it goes into standstill? I can press the HOME button on the Wiimote, which means the Wii didn't freeze, just the game. I select a stage and it says "Ready to Fight" and the crowd roars...then nothing.

What's your file's current size and the max size?

I think thats only the PAT0 entries, those are in order, but the textures don't seem to be a problem in the order they're currently in. I also made it that way so they'll be easier to find.

I have an icon with index 60, and it doesn't give Random an icon. But I think I changed something else in lambert113. Might as well just start from 61.

EDIT: How can I delete PAT0 entries?

The file size is way below the limit (984 kb) so no need to worry about that anymore :awesome:

Also included is a second sc_selmap with custom "Change Page" icons made by RandomTBush (if you don't want me to have that included just tell me and I'll remove it) and also special thanks to him for his sc_selmap.pac which had my problem fixed so I ended up using it.

Niceness! Any major restrictions for file sizes? Can this be used by injecting it into a common5? Etc, etc, etc?

No (file size limits) although replacing the prevbase images with unindexed 176x176 sized images might push it

Since the filesize is below what it should, can we start givin' it slightly larger pics? :awesome:

What resolutions the game can use? Any Width/Height?

Also, I told you all, indexing is the way to go on this. :bee:

I assume you're talking about the prevbases as well so I guess I slightly larger size wouldn't hurt. Keep in mind the filesize limit is 1.14 MB I think

And the resolutions (as stated in the readme) are defaulted at 176x176 but I used 88x88

I did a little test by editing the Battlefield prevbase in SSK's sc_selmap (the one with the original page change icons.)
Code:
SSK's sc_selmap                         1006988 (+0 bytes)

88x88 BF, scaled/indexed w/ IrfanView   1006878 (-110 bytes)
88x88 BF, scaled/indexed w/ GIMP        1007023 (+35 bytes)

88x88 BF, just scaled w/ IrfanView      1007041 (+53 bytes)
88x88 BF, just scaled with GIMP         1007087 (+99 bytes)

176x176 BF image, indexed w/ IrfanView  1016219 (+9231 bytes)
176x176 BF image, indexed with GIMP     1016326 (+9338 bytes)

176x176 BF image, not indexed           1018262 (+11274 bytes)
So I suppose that the way IrfanView edits images helps them compress better than the way GIMP does it. But it looks to me like the image size has a lot bigger effect on the sc_selmap filesize than indexing does. In particular, if we just consider IrfanView, there is a 11221 byte difference between non-indexed 176x176 and non-indexed 88x88, but only a 2043 byte difference between non-indexed and indexed 176x176.
