My favorite Pokemon are Golduck and its evolution Psyduck.

Here is Golduck. He is gold colored, and he is a duck, so he is called Golduck.

Here is Psyduck. He is no longer gold colored, but he has a jewel on his forehead that resembles a Psychic's third eye, so he is called Psyduck.

That'd only work if you changed Vibrava's colors. It's too brown to be part of Yanma's family.

Ok, so the wings are a bit too square and the colors aren't right, but as Ultimario said, just change the colors around like the Venomoth one and you got a good candidate for the Yanma family

Although, all I'd really would change is the wings. If they were more like dragonfly wings and were more white like theirs, then I'd be convinced of them being in the same family (and change the size a bit too I guess). The rest of the colors could be explained by teh gradual darkening that each members seems to be experiencing...

The only one I -really- see is the Venonat > Butterfree one. The others you have to try and see them, but that one really..strikes me. Honestly Game Freak probably likes puzzles, they probably have some cryptic mean like:

6 Messed up names

The eyes don't match the family, nor does the tail, or the number of legs, or the mouth, or the shape of the feet. There is more incommon with Keckleon and Rayquaza than their is with this family.

Politoed isn't the Hypnotoad, Poliwrath is. Look at Gates's Signature.

But the coloring makes sense. Tadpoles have basically the color scheme of the politads and later on they change to the green that Politoad is.
