man, I need ta get some of my vids up, I don't see anyone playing how I play. Not saying that's bad or good.
Some vids were kinda boring though.

That lucas missing multiple U-smashes makes this video a bit....I don't know....sucky?

This compendium is about good lucas matches, not sucky ones.

I highly suggest creating some sort of "best of" or "hall of fame" for the videos here. Its a very efficient way to show off the character to those who are curious as to how good the character is, among many other advantages. It will definitely be well worth the minimal amount of time it takes in the end.

By the way, as this thread hasn't been updated in quite some time, if a different dedicated member would like to create a new video thread then please do so. PM me once the new thread is complete and I will replace this sticky.

I'm sorry I haven't been maintaining it at all, my interest in smash has been slowly dwindling since the release of Brawl. This does sound like a good idea, but going off of my own opinions when choosing the best videos is a little... unfair, so... what do you propose I do?

Would it be okay if I asked people to nominate the ten best videos the thread has to offer?

Honestly I'd take off any video that's from February and maybe even early March. Most of these are from when people had little idea of how the game worked and were experimenting with Lucas's moveset more than anything else. I was going to just start a whole new Lucas video compendium because I figured you weren't paying attention to this one. To me, the purpose of a video thread is to show new players how Lucas is played well. This means tournament videos or high level friendlies. Almost all of these videos are friendlies and many of them include multiple SDs on both sides because the players were just getting used to the game. Not what I'd call high level playing with some exceptions. Not that there's anything wrong with that given how new the game was but I think it's time to do some housecleaning so that potential new Lucas players don't think Lucas sucks because the only vids we have are people who were still making the transition.

Well the biggest issue we have is that we have no "pros" really playing Lucas. I've heard that Vidjo does but there's only one video of him playing Lucas on youtube that I've seen and it's nothing special. These are the criteria I think that the videos that are put on here should follow

-the video is not against cpus
-the video was added later than February (possibly early March? Depends on quality)
-the video does not have obvious or stupid mistakes on either side (especially resulting in SDs)
-the video does not use items (we could put these in a seperate section if someone objects)
-tournament videos are encouraged but good friendlies are allowed
-If the video is from a wifi match there must be no evidence that lag interfered in gameplay
-the match does not take place on a custom stage or an obviously banned stage (like New Pork City)
-videos must be 1 v 1 or 2 v 2 no free for alls
-videos must be of decent quality (no black lines if we can help it.)

I think if we eliminate the ones that don't adhere to these rules we can cut out a lot of superfluous videos. Until some bigger names start coming up playing Lucas I think it's only fair to allow anyone who adheres to these criteria to be allowed into the thread. I think we should keep a top ten section for ones that are rated the best though. We should keep a demonstrational section for zap jump videos HRC etc. Hopefully in time there will be more people adding to the thread.

The only thing with this is that:

1. This requires every video being watched (doing it anyway so its no problem).
2. Some of the better matches are from February/March because we don't have that many good videos to work with.
3. A match can still be good even if a suicide occurs.

It's really hard to decide what should stay and what should go, especially because most of it is sub-par and that leaves the compendium bone dry.

I think Tyr's criteria are a bit harsh ... We don't want to turn it into some kind of elitist, you can't make any mistakes or you suck too much to have videos kind of thing. Besides, crazy friendlies, on custom stages, in which both players are having fun and trying new things could be a lot more revealing than rigid tournament matches on the same three stages or so. They'd certainly be a lot more fun to watch.

I find tournament players who decide "what works" and stick to it religiously are repetitive and stale. On a side note, that's probably why I lose so much in tourneys. I'm more of a showman than a competitor, but everyone seems to have a blast fighting me and I wouldn't change it for anything. So what if chasing with PK Thunder is "the better choice" over PK Freeze? If we stick to thunder all the time, we'll never find those situations which PK Freeze is actually good for. *end rant*

Alls I'm trying to say is that I want to see the crazy friendlies posted, mistakes or no, and I certainly don't want to see this devolve into some kind of club in which only those deemed "the most skilled" are included.

By the way, the Aevin vs Gannon (Shin) video of mine is outdated and embarrassing. Could you remove it, please, Mikezor? Hopefully I'll have something a little more interesting soon.

These are my thoughts exactly. I made the Lucas Video Compendium for everyone, not just for the best. My original thought was "the more matches the better", but now I'm getting criticized for it. I wanted anyone to be able to come and post their videos; give them their three minutes of glory.

Although I can see removing the really really terrible matches with bad quality, audio, and skill level reasonable, I cringe when I'm removing more than half of the videos that people posted here. How can I deem things unwatchable anyway? Our idea of really bad matches may be someone else's dream match. This is why I think Samurai Panda's idea of just doing a top list is better. That way, people who want to watch the most intense/whatever highly rated matches can, and the people who want to watch everything can.

Until I get more reassurance about erasing these videos, I'm going to refrain, taking off only what is necessary.

I watched all the videos (except Rafa's 26 matches, I only watched 3 of his). I'm letting people nominate their favorite videos. I'll decide what gets put up depending on number of nominations.

The purpose of a video compendium is to show how a good Lucas player plays. Go to the Melee boards and look on any video compendium and you'll see the top players for each character. Not random matches between unknowns. We don't have pros yet but that doesn't mean we should include any video that's around. If we don't have criteria for how well a person plays then we might as well fill it with all item matches, five stock on random custom stages with spikes and ice all over. I've watched every video and some of them are really just not entertaining or informative to watch because of how early on they were put on. A lot are from when people were just figuring out how their characters' moves worked. This leads to multiple SDs (yes I know one can be okay but some of these have 2 and 3 and that is not okay) and some really stupid and pointless play. It doesn't apply to all the early videos but definetly a good number of them. To be honest, I'm sure some of the players in those videos would appreciate them being removed because (hopefully) they have vastly improved since that time. Just because we don't have a ton of videos doesn't mean we should fill a thread up with all the ones we do have regardless of play quality. *end rant*

Well, I cut off about half of the videos now. Since apparently you've watched them all, can you nominate some of your favorites?

Hello. I recorded some fights with SuperDoodleMan (good rob player). Here are a lot of fights on varying stages, most of which are usually not banned at tourneys. We are both good (for me, as you can tell from the lucas tourney results thread, and SDM got 5th out of 80 at the same tourney I got 7th out of 80). Enjoy.

Seanson is Lucas
SDM is ROB

The last 2 were played on Aero Dive because ZMan's good lucas stages thread pretty much said aero dive against all characters, so we thought we'd try it out. Wasn't especially good, the only one that won was the stage.

Lol Seanson 50 matches!! WOW thats alot! So far I've only watched a few but I can tell your very aggresive. I really envy you I'm a little too defensive sometime. I just love how you just jump out on stage and attack them too; I on the other hand like to chase them down with my PK Thunder.

Another thing I loved was when you used the Zap Jump to recover in match 3. That was the first time I ever seen in used in an actual match. Now I have to go practice it again so I can utulize it.

I have a newb question, I'm fascinated by your edge game/edge mind games and want to improve on this in my own game.

There is lag when you grab an edge that you have to wait to end before you can FF or pull away from it...I know you can instantly attack/jump/roll back onto the stage after an edgegrab but it seems In most your vidz after you whip grab it you can instantly pull away for an attack, how is this being done?

first video at :57 and then again at :59. I know alot of the times you are whipping pulling towards the edge performing a jump then instantly attacking making it very hard to see, but at these times on the first video I can't tell for the life of me how you are doing that.

Plz help !

if you tether grab the edge, hit A and you'll immediately go to the ledge and at that exact moment you press down or back to let go of the ledge, and then just as immediately, jump toward the stage and do an attack [fair/dair are your best options, fair will probably be the most commonly used one, though nair isn't that bad either]...this makes Jungle Japes a great stage for Lucas...swing from edge to edge [like...recover to the side of one platform, immediately ledgedrop after the tether and DJ under the platform and quickly tether again and you can ledgehop from the middle main platform....something like that.
Did that in tourney once and everyone was like "****ing Indiana Jones n **** haha"...anyway, it's effective...especially for ledgehop fair [on the inside ledge of the side platforms] for a KO

try this: go toward an edge, tether, immediately press back or down and then tether again...do it until you can repeatedly regrab the ledge consistently. then use your mastery of the timing to ledgehop with attacks :)

WTF this is bugging me, I wish I had my wii at work. Can you drop down immediately after performing a tether to the grab? This would be game breaking for my edge game if true since I refuse to use PKT anymore.

Toasty, thank you soo much. I would do this when I play samus but for some reason never conected the dots, thought it was a samus only thing. Gawd I am soo excited to get home and practice this shiz.

Seriously erase every vid in this thread and just post those 50... My favorite lucas to date by Far ! Closest to my play style, non of this Defend till the end BS. I"M PUMPED !

yes. be careful against Metaknight though...his fast dtilt has such good range that when you pull back to the stage, he can gimp you out of it...and then gimp your upB :( :( :( Also!!! I was being predictable and went for the tether instead of upB against Plank's Kirby...and he just spiked me ;______;
basically at higher levels of play, people will get used to this and punish it if it's habitual. so use it when you can but keep your skills with PKT up so that you can rely on it when you have to.

also, I think I either tethered or was about to have the tether reach the edge, and then I got edgehogged and lost the tether and was forced to upB but in a panic, I failed :(
