I've been trying to play this Smash game for the last couple months, and would like some outside critiques now that I'm almost good enough to consider myself low-mid level at the game.

Especially looking for tips against Pikachu, Fox, Kirby, and Jigglypuff. I main Blue Kirby, since I'm not good enough to play anybody else.

Don't have much time now, so I'll only watch the first match.

General tips:
-Shield drop, it's easy (only saw one instance, so I don't know if normally you usually shield drop).
-Use fair after each air jump while recovering, as it makes Kirby go farther.
-Learn how to follow up after a U-tilt chain. You have the tendency to do too many U-tilts, whereas you could reverse bair -> nair/land on side plat and fsmash/etc.

Against Kirby:
-Try to always be the one above in the air, as Kirby doesn't have a good option to cover anything above him. Especially yellow Kirby. If you're bellow, avoid him (don't try to still hit him with something). Examples: 1:08, 1:18, 3:35, 3:48, 4:07 of the first vid.

Will add more another day when I have time to watch the rest.

Also, I'm not good at this game and even worse at Kirby, so feel free to disregard what I say lol. It's more something to start off with, since I know the better players have a tendency to be lazier when it comes to give tips.

Have more confidence, man. It doesn't matter how good you are at the game (I wouldn't know), you're incredible at giving advice. You give me tips all the time and they always help.

What are followups I should be doing on Utilt at percents that isn't "utilt to a billion followed by Strong Bair/Nair"?

u tilt has enough hitstun that you can follow up with a delayed fair so that you can z cancel quickly after it (to avoid the opponent DI'ing drastically out of it) and then follow up with another uptilt into a nair/bair off the stage, or even another fair if you're able to z cancel it to follow up again on a platform or something. if you're kirby, just uptilt and then nair/bair towards whichever ledge is closest so that you can set up an edgeguard. grab isn't too bad for techchasing, just dont abuse it because it's not that good either.

uptilt then ff dair near a ledge can be good if you can techchase in reaction with a grab or an fsmash/downsmash.

Or you can just do the matts and roll into someone then uptilt. This one is actually good because it can annoy your opponent if you just get them ONCE with it. Then they'll just be rushing you all the time lol

Also for Fox you can download these training mode combos [5 MB] just to see the options and get the follow ups into your muscle memory.

For floaties like Kirby and Puff you have less options. This Kirby on Samus showcases some good stuff for when platforms are involved. Tech-chasing from below by doing a slanted jump, and then tech-chasing from above after a dair is decent as you can't juggle them too much. Otherwise just try the combos you see on heavies until you find what works.


Practice them against real players and don't be satisfied with U-tilt → U-tilt → U-tilt → strong N/Bair. Most times you can do more.

A lot of times it looked like you allowed yourself to be hit by Yellow Kirby's Bair, or Nair, while recovering, throw your own nair to protect yourself there. Become more comfortable on Congo and Peach's Castle, it looked almost as if you were completely unfamiliar with the latter. When in the neutral game against another Kirby, if he has more flight hours than you, control the ground make him fight your fight. Bait out a Dair and U Tilt or F Smash, it seems as if the Yellow Kirby had more flight time, and his experience caused his victory, although you had the better DI, Tech chases, more consistent z-cancel/techs.

TL:DR It seems you just need to play more man the Kirby looks pretty good, if not just a bit green.
