So one confirmed, two return as assist trophies, one will probably go completely unacknowledged because Nintendo forgot his game exists, one is most likely cut (here's hoping for DLC), and one is the chosen one and his fate still hangs in the balance. Takamaru probably would have been 7.

I'm still getting the game because duh of course I am, and all of the newcomers look really fun, but so far, Little Mac is the only character I actually wanted, despite the prevalence of very cool move sets. I can definitely dig Palutena, Mega Man, and Pac-Man though, but everybody else I have no real attachment to.

If we include veterans, it's Mega Man, Ridley, K. Rool, Mewtwo, Snake, and Little Mac, so 3/6 with DLC taken into account, or 2/6 with the base game. Kind of disappointing - I figured I had realistic expectations.

That said:
I really like the Koopa-lings, and they were a want, I just didn't think them possible. But I do love how they turned out.
Same for Duck Hunt.

I wanted another Kid Icarus Rep after playing Uprising. I just wanted any of the candidates other than what we got. Specifically: Medusa, Magnus, Pyrhon, Phosphora, and Auron. But ah well. Now I just want a Kid Icarus Uprising 2 with more playable characters and character selection.

Only one made the cut and I am over Ghirahim now anyways. Nearly every newcomer character I expected to be in made the roster though so I guess things balanced out. I really hope that Paper Mario and Wonder Red make it as DLC. I doubt if Goku and Bomberman stand a chance.

My #1 character was Captain Falcon, but I was never really worried about his chances of being in the game, so I wouldn't really consider him part of a "roster wishlist" considering that the N64 crew is a permanent part of the roster.
My top 6 newcomers were probably something along the lines of:

3. Shulk
4. Phoenix Wright or Layton
5. Mewtwo (technically not a newcomer)
6. Little Mac

Four out of six, and Zael (along with Rayman and Commander Video) got his own trophy, which is a lot more than I expected. I'm really feeling it pretty happy with the roster.
Also, Mega Man's character design is flawless.
As a Metroid fan, I really appreciate that Ridley is an epic boss instead of a character, because making him playable would remove all meaning from Ridley's appearances in the games. He's one of the best bosses in Nintendo history, and Smash 4 and Brawl did an excellent job of representing this. (would have preferred his Prime, Zero Mission or Super designs, but not going to complain about it.) Elec Man, Ghirahim, Skull Kid, Magnus and Riki make great assist trophies. (and my personal favorite pokemon, Keldeo, is now in Smash)
I really like the idea of a Toon Ganon that's more in line with Wind Waker Ganondorf (dual wielding swords ftw), and implements ideas from Zelda 1 and LTTP, kinda like Toon Link has palette swaps based on Zelda 1, BS Zelda and LTTP. That way we could have an accurate Ganondorf (a canon Ganon? Lame pun) while still leaving Falcondorf intact for the people like myself who like Smash Ganon's playstyle.
the only character on the roster whose presence I think is really questionable is Dark Pit, but I can appreciate the added clone characters (honestly, every smash game needs a few), especially since:
1. Electroshock Arm was one of my favorite weapons in KIU
2. Dark Pit has the best theme music (and they included two of the versions)
