That makes sense, yeah. Fanboy over the heroes, but lay out a plan to steal the heart of King K Rool for his vicious banana-stealing. Or maybe argue about some things - discuss how Ridley is objectively evil, but Futaba is just too excited that he's in Smash Brothers to care.

Frustrated in what way? I imagine they'd assume Pitoo is his shadow, but I could see Makoto (or any other academically-inclined character) being confused by the weird mythology of Kid Icarus...
It's strange, I feel like some of the evil Smash fighters would be difficult to tackle Palace wise. Ridley was pretty much born evil, that's just the way he is. Taking his desires would probably put him in a coma. Ganondorf's evil originates from a curse, so how would that affect his palace?

Like I said, I just got a feeling she would be frustrated at him. The mythology is certainly one thing. Maybe it would have something to do with him being illiterate and a bit of an idiot? Pit also has little faith in people going into battle without a weapon, something Makoto might be offended by with her aikido background and all.

We don't truly know what Ridley was like when he was born... the best we have is an educated guess based on his clone's behaviour in Other M. That game does specify that Space Pirates in general need a leader to remain sapient, otherwise they devolve into feral beasts. Ridley is the exception because his clone managed to preserve the original's hatred of Samus; this is what his desires focus on. Maybe his Shadow would be a timid one begging Ridley to stop trying to kill Samus, lest he eventually get himself killed like he almost has several times. Deep down he is just as afraid of Samus as she is of him: a puny human that seemingly can't be killed even with all of his viciousness and cunning, and can very much kill him. But he buries these fears because Space Pirate society demands that you show no weakness and be willing to die for their cause, doubly so as one of their commanders who must lead by example.

Basically, taking his desires wouldn't put him in a coma, but rather he'd just regress to being a ''dumb animal'' that largely only kills out of self-preservation instead of sadism, and would behave way more cautiously around things that can threaten him.

...You know, with all this in mind, it actually makes the end of the Other M battle all the more significant: he FINALLY listens to his survival instincts and gets the heck away from Samus once it's clear he's outmatched.

That... Makes a lot of sense. I must admit, I only ever took a passing glance at Ridley's involvement in Other M, so I had no clue of the lore behind his creation in that game. I would love it if Metroid games delved more into this trait of Ridley. Heck, I would love it if Metroid games delved more into his character in general. When it comes to a concrete personality, we mostly have the manga to work with. I am curious on what his palace would actually be and what the cognitive version of Samus would be like.

Ridley's role for the Space Pirates is that of an enforcer: that is to say he kills anyone who gets in their way. The main reason he derives sadistic pleasure from this is likely due to how stupidly easy it was for him to do this and reap the benefits. His palace would likely feature many civilians to slaughter with ease... except little girl Samus who mysteriously evades all attempts to kill her, and the more he persists, the quicker she ''mutates'' into her adult, armoured form who not only continues to avoid his assault, but seriously hurts him in retribution.

I imagine his cognition would take a major hit when he becomes Meta Ridley, especially since it was said that the operation was quite painful if I recall correctly. Despite the numerous advantages it gave him, he still started to shed the armor when he was capable of doing so, which I think says a lot about Ridley as a character.

That is true - some of the Smash cast are more god-esque then the misguided humans fought in Persona 5... Some still work though - Wario and K Rool have greed, Bowser has envy/gluttony, et cetra. I also feel like Mewtwo could follow the trope of a misunderstood repressed innocent who turns malicious...

Those also make sense! I definitely could see a general dynamic of frustration/confusion at Pit - which I guess means they'd be good friends with Viridi?

Speaking of the KI cast, is there anyone people would like to see cameo in the guidance, a la Alucard, Chrom, and Slippy?

I think it's fair to say that all of the villains in Smash would have palaces, it's just a question of what they are like.

I don't think they would be friends with Viridi, considering she wants to genocide the entirety of the human race. The entire premise of the Reset Bomb Forest stage is showcasing that one time Viridi nuked an entire battlefield of humans. Don't know if they could change her cognition though, as like you said, god's are not misguided humans.

If there is DLC PG's, almost definitely. Seems like something Sakurai would do, and the Persona 5 portraits would work just fine in the PG format.

Ah, true... That is a significantly more difficult question...

I was more joking about them being annoyed with Pit and therefore getting along well with Viridi, but, true, the entire "I want to destroy the human race" thing may strain their friendship slightly. Actually she seems more fit to hang out with the mainline Shin Megami Tensei cast, now that I think about it, given how her goals somewhat fit with the chaos model of absolute anarchic freedom through war... Dang, now I kind of want her to be in SMTV.

I wonder who'd they go with though - the obvious interloper of Futaba, or do they add the other inter-dimensional observers taking on human-esque forms with Caroline and Justine? I also think its more likely we'll get DLC Guidances this time - AFAIK data-miners did not find the "I have no data on this fighter!" guidance, which was in the base game from the start of Smash 4.

Had a random thought last night and since many of you here have either
A) Already played (and loved) the game
B) Are currently playing (and loving) the game

I have a question for you all.

If the localization for this game in your country were handled by 4Kids (and all the infamous edits they're known for), do you think you'd still enjoy it?

I don't know, the closest we've ever had to them doing it themselves for games is when their voice cast pool performed in Sonic games for a while. Well, that and the one time a Kinnikuman Nisei game got exported.

Everyone in danger of death being sent to the Shadow Realm would be hilariously on point though.

And besides, it's not like Persona games before this didn't have silly edits of their own.

I am glad that there wasn't any censorship in P5 (as far as I know).
For example I was rly glad that

They literally let the protagonist die by a bullet in his head, without censoring the blood or anything like that. And I feel like that's how it should be. That was the first time (besides in P4G) where the bad ending in Persona actually felt bad to me lol

Pretty sure Mara would be deleted in its entirety, but from how notorious 4Kids is, there'd be a lot of changes. The guns would be something else, Kamoshida would probably completely redone (he's too lewd for 4kids standards), They'd probably retool the story of Shiho (suicide's not the answer, kids!) and countless more. My experience with them was with One Piece in the early days. There were giant swaths of the show that were completely done away with or cur entirely due to 4kids' censoring. I don't think it can be seen anywhere else nearly as badly as it was in One Piece. That's what got me thinking of this game.

I don't think so, because a lot of the messages and themes in P5 would be lost if it was heavily censored 4kids style.

Also, if they try to Americanize the game (like the very first game tried), you would have a tough time convincing me that Shibuya is Times Square or a fantasy location.

Ooh, I saw some Joker reaction post, my turn. Unpopular opinion I think, but I was completely invested in the Game Awards, it was really entertaining to me. Anyway, I was called in for dinner and thank goodness I took my phone with me because the moment the static happened I said "Persona???", then comes the Phantom Thieves logo and I choke on my pizza I'm already running around and screaming, I come back and I say "Wait what is this!? "Persona 5 Arena!? The definitive edition!? SMASH!?!?" I go completely quiet as I'm watching intensively with the dumbest smile on my face, then I see the Smash logo and I scream louder than I've ever screamed before, running around just, "JOKER'S IN SMASH" a thousand times over, my entire family is giving me the coldest look and my sister said "Bruh no one cares" then starts recording me. I started crying and I sat down still freaking out and my phone is vibrating like crazy, with my Discord notifications at 99+, all of my friends either saying I was right all along, apologizing for doubting me, or cursing me out. Then I got ownership of a server because of my Joker prediction. Easily one of the greatest moments of my life.

Edit: I lost my voice the next day and was in a lot of pain but it felt satisfying.

Probably not. It would be too juvenile at that point and I wouldn't be able to take it seriously.

Hmm... *deep thinking*
-Shadows will chase the MC not for stealing the treasure (which he did), but for being in a Casino while underage.

-MC will be convicted as a cold-blooded criminal. Framed for stealing a purse from the women, and Littering... and Jaywalking.

-Sojiro's place serves only Macaroni, and Milk, or its a Burger joint (oh and he sucks a lollipop instead of smoking a cigarette).

-Kamoshida's crime would be yelling mean words at the students like Slowpoke, Turtle, and Sloth while Shiho gets it the worst... being called a snail which is so hurtful she's stuck at home with a stomachache, while Kamoshida threatens to expel the MC and Ryuji for calling him a jerk. Anna, and the other Phantom Thieves overdramatically want to beat him to death send him to the Shadow Realm, and make him confess.

-Madarame's crimes are pretty straightforward: Plagiarism just like in the game. Expect the part with Yusuke's mom will be the unforgivable crime of chasing her away by threatening to splat paint on her, making her run away for good leaving Yusuke abandoned.

Kaneshiro blackmails students with things like Ballet classes, hanging with parents in public, poor fashion choices, watching children shows... and Jaywalking, and frames the Phantom Thieves when he catches them standing on the grass next to a 'Feet off the grass' sign.

Futaba blames herself, when her Mother leaves to enjoy a wonderful vacation without her for a long time, the guys in suits blames Futaba too for why her mother left and why they couldn't go on vacation with her. Leaving Futaba to feel sad and wishes she could run away and go on vacation too, while Medjed threatens to upload and expose everyone's diary online.

The Time Out Room

Iwai's Water Gun, and Foam Melee Weaponry Shop.

Romance so ambiguous that you'd think they were long lost siblings.
*Shudder*

Nope.

Pretty much the response I expected with one small detail. Someone seems to have hurt you at some point and it involved Jay walking. You poor soul.

We gotta hope we get that track to begin with. Just about everyone wants Rivers in the Desert aong with a Palace themed level, but the likelihood of a Mementos level and music is extremely high. Hopefully with as much as he praised the game, he'll try super hard to get a lot of the music in there.

Also, not sure how much of a 'Troll' Sakurai really is. He's never really done anything with the intent of being a troll; that's just what the internet labels him as for some decisions. I think the only intentional 'trolling' he did was add Duck Hunt Dog to the game. He specifically mentioned that he heard someone (or saw a post; cant remember interview fully) mention how funny it'd be and he went 'yeah, that would be funny......Doin' it!'

Regarding Sakurai trolling, it's very clear Sakurai knows exactly what he's doing at all times. Just look at the stuff he does with Spirits and events. The Paz spirit in particular....

You fooled me for a moment, thinking he got an official render already lol.

On the subject of Joker's presentation in Smash: While there's usual discussions/speculations about his moveset, his stage, music tracks, potential Spirits, etc. I want to add more to it: What sort of pictures do you expect/want to see with Joker? Whether it be his Classic Mode ending pic, or even just pics of him on the official website (when his gameplay is revealed); what antics do you want to see him being portrayed doing whether just cause it looks cool/funny or be a direct homage to something from his home game (ex. Cloud holding Zelda by water which references Aerith's death)?

I want a picture of Joker asleep next to a satisfied looking black Incineroar. A picture with Inkling is also a no brainer.

Also maybe a picture of him about to fight Ridley, Ganondorf, K. Rool, etc. and looking nervous, as if to say "oof, that's a lot of hearts to steal..."

I'm curious what they'll do for his trailer. Maybe it could start with a calling card narrated by Jun Fukuyama/Xander Mobus: "Smash players, I've come to steal your hearts!" Or something like that.

I want to see images of Joker sneaking up on masked characters for example Metaknight or Lucina during her taunt, mistaking characters like Pit, Pac-Man, and the Pokémon for Personas/Shadows, Joker bringing a knife to a sword fight, and also posing with Bayonetta because they're both fabulous so why not.

I'm pretty sure one of his pictures will involve him and several characters representing party members, like this:

Or he will be with other masked characters like Lucina and Meta Knight.
I'm sure one will involve the "go to sleep" meme where a happy Incineroar will be overlooking a sleeping Joker. One could involve Joker interacting with a butterfly in the background. If they want to reference him fighting against the Shadow versions of characters, they could make a pic of him fighting against Ridley with Bahamut ZERO behind him.
And they could also have him fight against a giant, golden, pirate hat wearing King K. Rool.

When it comes to the fear of Persona 5 doing an FF7 and having limited music tracks: Does anyone know if there is any red tape involved with the Persona 5 tracks? I hear somewhere that the Persona songs are in-house to there's hopefully no licensing issues that have to be dealt with as opposed to FF and DQ who need to pay royalties to its composers.

As for the worry of all the tracks being instrumental: Is Lyn (the vocalist for the P5 songs) also in-house, or are there also royalties that need to paid (either to her or whoever writes the songs) before Sakurai/Sora can use them?

I don't know about royalties but I don't think it would be any more troublesome than the various Jun Senoue songs from Sonic. As far as I know, the music troubles at Square are solely because Uematsu retains licensing rights to his music despite no longer being a Square employee, while Shoji Meguro is still an Atlus employee.

One of Persona 5's biggest points of praise is its soundtrack and Sakurai is a huge fan of the game. I have to imagine he will move heaven and earth to get the music in the game; unfortunately they will probably all be capped off at ~3 minutes (I think the longest song in Smash is Ring! Dong! Dang! from Stylish Savvy at roughly 2:50, but I could be wrong), but it's better than nothing.

I think, at most, we'll prolly get all the instrumental songs from the OG tracks, though I'm still hoping for the vocalized versions since they're all amazing tracks.

It would be a bit more troublesome then Senoue's work, given how Senoue was both the composer and vocalists for the vocal tracks performed by him in the game; however, it is infinitely less complicated to licensing FF music... ATLUS has gotten their singers to return for a multitude of games (PQ2, Dancing, etc.), while SE is unable to secure the same versions of the same songs for the different localizations of their games...

I think, at most, we'll prolly get all the instrumental songs from the OG tracks, though I'm still hoping for the vocalized versions since they're all amazing tracks.
I feel like it would be weird for them to exclude Last Surprise - even if they had to remix it without vocals, I'd still say it is almost guaranteed.

When it comes to my track wishlist: Yes I do want the vocal versions to stay intact, but I also want to see Smash remixes of some instrumental tracks if only because I love seeing alternate takes from other composers on familiar tracks (just like how I love seeing official crossover art for characters not usually drawn by the artist).

My personal wants for remixes are Blooming Villain and Days When My Mother Was There. It would also be balling if they turned non-battle themes like Beneath the Mask into something battle-worthy lol.

I've been told that ATLUS is very lenient with their content and if they own the rights to the vocal tracks, I see no problems putting those versions in. At the bare minimum, I expect the vocal version of Last Surprise. I'm sure we will get vocal and instrumental versions of Last Surprise, Life Will Change, and Rivers in the Desert. Along with those songs, I bet that we will get Blooming Villain and Will Power. Maybe they can also include Beneath the Mask and Wake Up, Get Up, Get Out There.

If they include songs from P3 and P4, I hope they include Mass Destruction, Burn My Bread Dread, Time to Make History, Reach Out to the Truth, I'll Face Myself, and Fog.

Fingers cross then, also fingers crossed for some Smash remixes. While I'd be happy enough if they had as many tracks as possible (both vocal and instrumental), some Smash remixes would just be icing on the cake.

Yeah, it should probably be noted that they could get the vocal versions to be used inside Puzzles and Dragons. I doubt that they'd be able to lisence it for that and not for Smash, unless they have a very weird contract with the singers...

On that note, vocal Last Surprise, vocal and instrumental Life Will Change, and a stage-specific song (i.e., Mementos for Mementos, Poem of Everyone's Souls for Velvet Room, Whims of Fate for the Casino, etc.) all seem virtually guaranteed to me. I also think that Invitation to Freedom, the Phantom Thief battle theme in Persona Q2, is more likely then people may think, for promotional reasons if nothing else (plus, that song is lyrically written to be about a crossover, so it'd be pretty thematic). Other P5 battle themes like Rivers in the Desert or Blooming Villian also seem pretty probable. Beyond that there are so many options I don't know where to start haha.

Also, if anyone cares about that other crossover fighting game with Persona content in it, BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle will be coming to arcades with new content (which will also be added to the console versions). I imagine we'll hear more about that this weekend during EVO Japan, but it's nice to hear something after the no information since August....

I wouldn't mind if they kept all the songs intact, but it'd be really cool if we got a couple of remixes (Blooming Villian and Will Power mixes pls). I'd add Keeper of Lust to the list because even though we don't hear it a lot, it's still a hella rad song.

With 2.0.0 in about a week or so, do you think we'll get any gameplay footage of Joker in the near future? We still haven't gotten our first Direct of the year, so maybe we'll get one next month. I hope we see something soon ;-;
