Pretty sure he was just saving face, lol.
SO, IT'S TIME WE HAD A SERIOUS TALK ABOUT RIDLEY.
-waits for Saito to leave the room-
The more I play P:M Charizard, the more confident I am that Ridley could be a "clone" of him and still be acceptably Ridley...ey. Although Ridley would need many very different animations, the primary idea behind many of Charizard's attacks and style would fit Ridley very well. Of course, Ridley's not just going to be a bigger, slower Charizard or anything. No, no, no. I'ma see if I can put a little something together here.
Ridley, Scourge of the Galaxy and Commander of the Space Pirates
Size: Very Large (Overall, slightly larger than Bowser)
Weight: Dedede/Charizard/Samus Tier
Walking Speed: Extremely Slow
Running Speed: Slowish, around Ganon's Speed
Jump Height: High, a little greater than Charizard's
Number of Jumps: 3
Air Speed/Maneuverability: Slightly Less than Jigglypuff's
Falling Speed: Medium Slow (to Very Slow)
Fast Fall Speed: Moderate
Bonus: Cannot Crawl, Can Wall Cling, Can Wall Jump
As one would expect of a dragon from space, Ridley is all about staying
the hell off the ground. Ridley rears up on his hind legs while standing still, keeping much of his body curled together to reduce his battlefield presence and avoid danger. However, being a quadrupedal creature, Ridley must walk and run on all fours, making him a long, snake-like target. This, coupled with his slow ground speed and relatively low weight (for his size), make him a big, juicy punching back for characters that perform well on the ground.
Of course, the Cunning God of Death isn't just going to be a pushover. With quick, weak ground attacks that are primarily used for popping his opponents into the air, Ridley is all about controlling where his opponents are (which means putting them into the air), putting himself where they are (in the air), then murdering them there (again, in the air). When Ridley jumps into the air, he stretches his lanky, skeletal body out and spreads his wings back behind him. With his sleek form, the deadly Space Pirate can glide through the air and strike his opponents with his frighteningly long tail and razor-sharp claws, talons, and teeth.
Once Ridley is in the air, though, he'll be reluctant to come down. With a Down Special inspired by Charizard's, Ridley can hastily leap into the air, then stay there by spreading his wings wide. When using his Down Special in the air, the space dragon can drastically lower his fall speed, allowing him to hang in the air and claim the space above the battlefield as his own. With deadly aerials, Ridley can control the sky and keep his opponents grounded, or in the air with him.
As one would expect, many of Ridley's attacks involve his pointy tail, which has a sweetspot on the end, and a sourspot everywhere else. Think of his tail as a spear when using it.
Space Pirate Specials
Standard Special - Dragonfire
Ridley hocks up a fireball, which flies in an arc and hits the ground, causing a small fire on the ground. The arc and trajectory can be controlled similarly to Yoshi's Eggs or Snake's Grenades. Holding the button for a second will charge the fireball, turning it into white-hot plasma and causing it to explode on impact, popping foes upward. Ridley can spit two normal fireballs in a row, or a normal then a charged one.
Using this move in the air will cause the fire/plasmaball to arc much more heavily and makes it hard to aim. Ridley will hang in the air slightly while charging the attack.
Side Special - Pirate's Grasp
Ridley leaps foward, wings and claws outstretched, and makes a grab for his opponent. Upon grabbing a grounded opponent, Ridley can either grind them into the ground (as he's done to Samus on multiple occasions) or toss them up into the air. Upon grabbing an aerial opponent, Ridley can throw his opponent forward or backward, or do a dive ala Ganon's Aerial Flame Choke, which results in the dragon grinding his opponents into the ground anyway.
Down Special - Wicked Wings
Ridley launches himself from the ground and high into the air. Upon pressing this special again midair, Ridley opens his wings and greatly decreases his fall speed. In this mode, he can use aerials repeatedly, but his aerial maneuverability is decreased, making this perfect for antagonizing foes that try to reach you or lining up a perfect KO. Fast falling in this mode causes Ridley to close his wings and descend normally. Ridley can also drop Dragonfires straight down or slightly to each side in this state, but they cannot be charged or shot rapidly.
Up Special - Space Jump
Ridley flaps his wings powerfully, creating downward gusts of air and propelling him up. He flaps his wings twice (the second triggered by a second push of

, but you can't delay for too long), and can use this "attack" during Wicked Wings to increase his height a bit. He can only do so once, though. His wings also get a small hitbox during this attack.
Deadly Aerials
NAir - Razor Twirl
Ridley briefly curls his wings in, then twirls vertically with his tail curling around him. Think Sonic's vBrawl FAir, but vertical. Hits multiple times. It's much quicker than most other attacks of this nature, meaning it does a bit less damage. Ridley's tail spear is around waist-level during this attack, meaning foes near the center of Ridley will take more damage.
FAir - Spear Tail
Ridley flicks his tail foward quickly, similar to Mewtwo's FTilt. The end of the tail (the alienesque spear) holds a sweetspot that can throw foes forward, while the rest of the tail is a sourspot that doesn't do much knockback at all. Gotta have that spacing! Although, you
could use that lack of knockback to build up some %...
DAir - Pogo Tail
One of Ridley's famous moves from the majority of his 2D incarnations, Ridley points his tail straight down and quickly drops altitude for just a moment. If the opponent can be sweetspotted with the tip, they will be spiked, and Ridley will bounce back up a short ways. Ridley can also hit the ground with his tail, allowing him to "pogo" back into the air with it.
UAir - Claw Swipe
Ridley simply swings his claws haphazardly above him, being unfamiliar with fighting foes who actually manage to get higher than he is. This attack brings foes toward Ridley, but will not spike them. If Ridley happens to nick them with his claws, they'll be popped up a bit.
Smashes
FSmash - Meson Bomb
Ridley charges up his plasma breath, then exhales a short-ranged Meson Bomb directly in front him. Similar to Snake's vBrawl FSmash, but with a wider radius and slower wind-up. Throws foes forward at an upward angle.
DSmash - Dual Swipe
Ridley swings his claws out in front of him and drags his tail out behind him, along the ground. This attack as greater range behind Ridley, as well as a rear sweetspot that pops foes up (this is the only case in which the entire tail is a sweetspot). Hitting with the dragon's claws will throw a foe backward toward Ridley's tail, but not in time to hit the other hitbox.
USmash - Skewer
The purple Space Pirate faces the screen and spreads his wings, popping foes very briefly up, then jabs his tail straight into the air. Foes hit with the sweetspot will soar into the air, foes hit anywhere else will probably punish you. Excellent for juggling.
Tilts
FTilt - Delicious Flesh
Ridley sticks his crooked neck out, chomping at foes with his razor teeth. Similar to Charizard's FTilt, but with slightly greater range and much less knockback. Can be followed up with a claw swipe by pressing the button again, to throw your foe away from you and give yourself a little more room.
UTilt - Tail Flick
Ridley swings his tail up and in front of him, skewering foes who try to get in close. Throws foes up.
DTilt - Scorpion
Ridley jabs the ground in front of him like a scorpion would. Hitbox extends over his entire body as his tail lashes forward. Foes hit by the spear end at the point of impact fly straight up, all other KB is forward.
Jab - Ridley swings his jagged claws twice, then swings his tail forward. Three hit combo, low %, last hit has moderate forward knockback and ending lag. Emergency situations only.
