What he saidConquest has nothing to do with tier lists.
Conquest is effectively a popularity contest. The more people use a character, the more points that character/team gets, and thus they win Conquest for that session. Case in point: Mac is very average on all tier lists due to his extremely polar ground vs air game, but he has won every single conquest. And according to Sakurai, he had the lowest win rate on For Glory out of all characters.
Most people trying to use the "best" characters skip right past Yoshi and go to Sheik or Diddy anyway. Charizard is also notoriously easy to kill people with in lag conditions due to the increased difficulty in dodging Flare Blitz.
Of course, your point about early tier lists being inaccurate is completely valid. Strategies and character preferences change over time, and we also have balance patches to influence it this time around. But it has nothing to do with Conquest.
I agree, but in-person matches are different from online. It may also help that Charizard was also in the previous Conquest, and Pokemon recently was released. And again, he's far easier to use well than Yoshi is.Well what is true is that people usually choose characters that are OP or used in tier lists...
